Depends on the return.... but we have
Muzzin
Dermott
Sandin
Lehtonen
Willing to listen - mr.sir
That's alot of faith you're putting in Dermott, Sandin and Lehtonen. Rielly is too important to the Leafs to trade him. |

nylander is 81st in NHL 5v5 goals / 60 last three seasons. (minimum 25 games played)
the /60 avoids the half season issue.
that's a fringe 1st line FW.
EDIT: fringe 1st line FW considering his main strength should be scoring goals. - MaximusAurelius
can you tell me with the stats you are using for this where Matthews ranks?

Nylander for Dahlin
Rielly for a top-6 forward who plays with an edge - Steven_Seagull
What's so special about the warrior QR edge stick that you'd trade Rielly just so a player uses one?

Galchenyuk will be a top6 winger.
Move Nylander or Thornton to the #3C.
Galchenyuk - Matthews - Marner
Thornton - Tavares - Hyman
or
Hyman - Tavares - Nylander
or Hyman with Matthews and Marner, and Galchenyuk with Tavares. - MaximusAurelius
Galchenyuk probably is not the answer...
He’s more of a gamble but with Vesey sucking and Engvall maybe getting plucked off waivers soon is cause for concern.
Just another piece.
But he is talented and there is a chance he regains some of that form he had 4 seasons ago. |

EDIT: fringe 1st line FW considering his main strength should be scoring goals. - MaximusAurelius
Just did points/60 at 5v5 and he's 39th. So pretty clear from both that he's a top line offensive player at 5v5 hockey. Factor in his PP skills and he's an offensively gifted top line winger. No doubt.
Does he have warts ...ya of course. Love to see more urgency and compete but guys like this have existed and succeeded in the NHL forever ..and will forever.
Would I rather have Brady Tkachuk ...ya, but so would Calgary.
So the constant narrative of what he is and who he should be traded for is (frank)ing a waste of time and space. If Dubas was offered a similarly talented offensive player who also brought those other attributes he'd make that trade faster than you and AA could embrace in a rub and hug. |

Nylander plays on the 2nd line but produces like a 1st liner? - senstroll
It's also a strange comparison from a data perspective. It deliberately incorporates the worst year of a player's performance which involved a hold-out, missed training camp and so on. Do we all know that he failed to show up in game shape? Yes. I still think that was unprofessional, and is always a consideration about his character when you watch him take shifts off. I think he probably is, at his core, a lazy player and will always require a lot of a coach's attention to motivate. But this character evaluation is not equivalent to a data comparison, and the data unfairly influences a data comparison by including that year.
If you take the last three years, though, and look at GF/60 at 5v5, there's a whole bunch of other garbage players who are lower in GF/60 like Malkin, Evander Kane, Eichel, Laine, Landeskog, Crosby, Scheifele, Barzal, Kopitar, Rantanen, Sequin, Marner . . . you know, classic non-first liners. Fringe. Or crap, if you will. Not to mention Roope Hintz at 152 and our newly annointed first liner, Galchenyuk, sitting at 282 using this metric. |
