Second period thoughts are up. Detroit held Chicago to one shot for almost half of the second period. The Hawks started pouring it on thanks in part to multiple power plays. Detroit has to keep this a 5 on 5 contest in order to have a shot.
Second period summary - Detroit was in full control of the second period for about the first half. Multiple. Power plays have the Blackhawk squad nearly even in shots on goal. Greiss, the defense, and some fortunate bounces have kept this a one goal game. Detroit needs to get back to where they were in the first half of the game. Force Chicago to play in their own end. Stop taking bad penalties, or any penalties at all against such a high powered offense. Even if Detroit controls the final 20 minutes, they may still end up losing 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 (multiple empty net goals). The offense is knocking on the door, Subban is having a better game (and a much better season so far. Coming in he was a sub .900). The power play is an albatross. I’m not sure what they need to change, other than everything at this point. 5 on 5 they are playing good hockey, so that is where they need to find a way |

So you wouldn’t target Marcus Pettersson? - Feds91Stammer
If he’s willing to come into a rebuild, be part of the group, sacrifice and put ego on the shelf? Maybe. But I sure as hell wouldn’t ship out a player that is building the team up on the inside. Helm and Glendening may both be gone after this year. Fabbri is a part of the fabric of what Detroit is trying to build. Advanced stats never tell you if a player is a jackass, but it certainly seems to create many along the way |

With the emergence of POJ the pens board think Pettersson is one of their better trade assets. - Feds91Stammer
Does that include any hockey writers? or just the fans on the blog? The guy better be good cuz he has a lot of term left.
I gotta hear it from Ek
I just wonder if Stevie has feelers out for Vince Dunn or a D-man from the Canes. St Louis and Carolina are getting ready to deal.

Disagree on the part about Fabbri being part of what Detroit is building but I seem to have struck a nerve. |

Well he should only go after Dunn if he’s willing to check his ego and be part of a rebuild. |

I don't think Stevie is going to do a 1 for 1 deal. He is looking to get take on a bad contract/salary and a high pick, it may include a couple more players, it may not. He wants draft capital as well in the deal. If he is as patient and wise, as I believe he is, the future may be very bright. Most of the Wings prospects this year are progressing well.

Third period summary - a lazy defensively effort is shielded by very good goaltending as Chicago outscores their issues. Red Wings played a very good game, but have no confidence offensively.
hird period/OT summary - Detroit played as good a third period as I can remember. Outshooting Chicago 9 to 3, and a goal from Djoos that was absolutely beautiful. Multiple chances to go ahead simply didn’t materialize into a much needed goal. The effort, though was fantastic. Going into overtime against a team with so many potent scoring threats is nerve wracking. An entire games effort can seem to simply disappear. That is just the reality of where Detroit is right now. A blown 3 on 1 at 3:40 in OT was again, a result of over passing and poor decision making offensively. Detroit simply doesn’t have the offensive prowess needed, and a great effort was shot down by a more talented team. Chicago won’t be getting close to any playoff successful with their play. It’s ridiculously one sided. For regular season, it is fun for the fans. As Detroit saw, the scoring will dry up and the full scale rebuild will take its natural course. While the Wings can celebrate much of what they did right, their complete lack of confidence concerning offense will haunt them. Greiss, again, was punished for keeping the team in it. Again, the effort was there, but a more talented team won, regardless of their lack of effort in 2.5 of 4 periods. That’s the reality of NHL hockey. At some point, effort will translate into results. For now, this is a game with many, many good elements that Detroit can build off of.

That statement rings true for every single acquisition. The players have to want to be here and want to put in the work. Perfetti screwed himself with his ego at the draft. It is the reality of this rebuild. |

I can’t believe what Ottawa pulled off. It feels like they’ve had Toronto’s number for a few games. Just unreal. Thank you, H2. You always make me smile |

Detroit offense through 17 games:
Goals / 60 while playing at 5-on-5: 1.90
Goals / 60 while playing at 5-on-4: 1.91
We literally do not get any better at scoring goals when playing with a man advantage. Essentially 100% of the benefit of being on the powerplay for Detroit so far this season is defensive in nature (i.e., we don't improve our chance of scoring but at least we improve our chances to not get scored on).
It is really by far the most aggravating thing about this season so far IMO. Detroit is playing well enough at even strength to win games. The defense has been good. The goaltending has been competent. If the special teams were even average this team could probably play pretty close to .500 hockey. Still not good enough to squeak into the playoffs, but not remotely a last place team either. |

Claim high COVID #'s (4th line and depth defensemen) so the PP people can get a few practices?

Maybe not in your eyes, but :"14th best d pair in the league xGF wise out of d pairs with 100 mins but hey keep poopting on a guy playing his ass off." indicates that this is something systemic with you. Opinions are one thing, but you routinely attempt to humiliate others, which really fails to meet the intent of Jeremy's blogging and his character.
He's always been very accommodating and respectful. And that's what we expect from others.

Ya know H, we've all been talking about The Captain's close-hold moves for a long time here.....
We should start a pool: Who's going to be the BIG name signing/move at the TDL for Detroit. The winner gets the internet for a week.
I think it's Brett Pesce from the 'Canes.
