No I think we just need to construct another bottom 6 line really. We know ZAR-Blue-Tanev and Guentz-Sid-Rust are good. Can Geno's line get it together is a question and obviously the other line is horsepoop.
- 668710

Yep, I'm totally for that. What I thought the poster I quoted did a good job of was laying out reasonable expectations for a 3rd line.

Petts is a GTD tonight.

I never thought I'd ask this, but do you sit Ceci or Ruh?

Ruh was the odd man out in practice yesterday. Honestly, I think it's the right decision.

I thought you were solely focusing on finishing.

I am. For one guy on that line. Balance that line out with a Finisher-Geno-Grinder. I've been pretty adamant that only one of those guys needs swapped off of Geno's line.

Shocked at how much cap space we keep left over with these moves. Basically send E Rod down when he comes off of LTIR and you're fine. If we could swap Legere for Poulin this would be a near perfect one two punch of moves.

I kept Legare for the RH shot, but it's whatever to me.

Big issue with the ZAR-Blue-Tan line is that ZAR has been a 4th liner his whole career and Tanev is middle 6 winger. I believe Blue can be a 3c but the other winger would have to be Kap or Zucker. However I don't see them breaking up that line.
- 668710

This may end up being true, but Tanev was just a 4th liner when he was older then ZAR. I still think there might be a little more offensively with him and Blueger who were both basically rookies last year. Not to mention ZAR apparently played with a bad shoulder.

I'm not guaranteeing this mind you, just saying don't count it out.

37 points in 72 games
29 points in 51 games
32 points in 61 games

.... those are consistent production rates each year....

It comes down to his partner IMO. I imagine Petts will not be with Marino tonight, so yeah, I'm going with Ceci, but I think Ruhwedel is a better partner for Matheson given his style.

you guys are really souring on Zucker already?

I thought he was our best player in the playoff series. he might be in a funk or not in ideal shape yet... but he's tailor made for a speed / puck retrieval system and can fill the net fairly consistently. No way am I looking to move him already.

If he keeps it up, yes. The sample size is what's bothering me and honestly, this is going to be a small sample size regardless. I feel like too often we see players like him around the NHL have aberrations that never get met again.
- Rinosaur

I agree sample size is too small to count on. Still it's encouraging. Blueger was expected to be an offensive center when drafted in the 2nd round. Be nice if he can get in the 35 point range while playing well defensively

Nah I don't want to move him, I want to push him or Kapanen down the lineup.

From my understanding Poulin is a much better prospect. I get skeezed out buy guys that have athletic limitations to their game because often times in sports you can look like a bombshell in lower levels of competition if the IQ aspect is there, but when you get to higher levels where everyone's a top athlete you just can't keep up. Book on Legere says he's a crappy skater. I think it's been said he's improved to the point that he might be NHL caliber now, but going from a non-NHL caliber skater to maybe passable is not a ringing endorsement of skating ability.

You don't think Pettersson alone would be enough to grab those two?

I don't really care about those picks. Their possibilities of becoming NHL players are low and I'd rather load up and take a shot with a stacked roster.

Not soured on Zucker at all. I think he's a good hockey player. He just can't be a team's 3rd best winger unless a team has a ton of Zucker level players and can overwhelm you with pretty good hockey players across three/four lines.

I think he based it off what I said I’d be cool with. Just make the 2nd a 3rd

I wish Sully would give Geno Guentzel for a few games and put Zucker with Sid just to see the results and see what happens.
- j.boyd919

The thing I can't stand with Malkin is he acts like a goof and stops trying when he isn't happy with something. This costs the Pens points.

Malkin has the highest cap hit and has had the benefit of never having to play against another teams top line. Why mess with the top line that is winning them games?

Zucker and Kapanen are really good players. I'd drop Malkin to the 3rd and bump McCann into 2C before I separated Sid and Jake.

Last game, Ceci had 2 apples and was a +3.
