We almost went on a cup run but the Devils beat us. Jagr ran line 1 and our 2nd line was Lang Starka Kovalev.

Yeah but we needed Lemieux coming out of retirement to do it. And nobody figuring out how to attack Herbert for a month since he came from the ECHL.

But you're right, there were a couple runs in there. KLS was a great line that year though. Rarely seen that type of chemistry. Shame they never really got a chance to see if they could keep it going.

So a regular hockey question that may seem obvious, but has me a bit confused whether it's strategy or personnel. While Matheson obviously lost his assignment on that goal, I think both him and Marino played very well, but Matheson along with other dmen throughout this season are guilty of this regular issue of losing their assignment around the net.

My question is this: Is this a systematic issue or do we just have a bunch of dmen who have far too many lapses?

That was an amazing 2nd line. Straka was such a speed demon. And Kovy - such a sniper. And Lang ... well, the guy looked like a Muppet LOL

Kovalev was a playmaker too. Some of the best hands I've ever seen.

I don't think Kovalev gets talked about enough. His hands and wrist shot are amongst the best of all time.

Oh yeah, AK 27 was one of my faves. Always had kind of like a smirk on his face, too.

Anytime I see Lang’s name I just think of when Jiri Hudler banged his wife lmao.
- Feds91Stammer

Lol, who was the one banging Hartnells wife? Was it Carter banging Hartnells wife with Pronger watching?! Or the other way around? Either way lmfao

I mean Hrdina was the 1c with Morozov and Jagr on the wings then Mario replaced him.

Oh, Morozov. That rosy-cheeked, lazy and enigmatic Russian! He didn't fair as well in the NHL as he did in the KHL. I think he couldn't take the physical aspect of American hockey.

Honestly, probably best straight up hands the Pens have ever had and that's saying a lot with the talent we've had. Sucks neither Sid or Geno were healthy when he came back. Kovalev is on my all time Pens team for sure. And probably the 2nd line RW behind Jagr. I'd put Kessel 3 RW. We should do that today haha. Everyone make your all time Pens team.

The Pens have a history of great RWs, so that would be a tall order, but I think Kovy behind Jagr makes sense. While he was only here for three season, Tocchet was a beast for the Pens.

(frank) I left Tocchet off my team. Could replace Recchi with Tocchet though. Check out my team haha.

Basically the the same team. You just replaced Nedved with Staal(which works too) and Martin with Kasper(which is ok, I liked Kasper better though). I just always gush over that 3 of the greatest players of all time played on a line together haha.
