He's gonna be axed, book it.

This to me is the smartest move they can make. I believe they need to see a different coach at the helm before making any player moves and see what he can do, then re-evaluate the weaknesses.

For rentals maybe, but I also don't think they should go for any rentals. I think it would be a waste of assets.

If they can make a hockey trade then I think it's good at any point to at least allow the team to settle in with their new player(s).

- Rinosaur

Like one of our LD for a forward would be a good start, I'm still for a coaching change and then if we look better go after a rental.

Tatar practicing on the 3rd line and no PP time. Just make it happen already.
- Feds91Stammer

Habs don't need what our surplus is though. But I'd like to have Tatar for sure.

You don't like Gallant? I mean I'd take either, just wondering your thoughts.

Mid 90's we were still good, it was the early 2000's we sucked. It's crazy we traded Jagr in 2001 and by 2004 we had already drafted another Generational talent and a year later got another one. And during that time Mario was back and still playing but we still sucked, however we've had one of Lemieux, Jagr, Sid and Geno playing on this team since Lemieux was drafted, and that's crazy!

Considering most of the drafts since, it is incredibly impressive. Lafrenier with 1 point so far. Kaako and Hughes meh. Dahlin and svechnikov, Nolan and hirchier. Not saying there players aren’t good, and yeah you got matthews and mcdavid shortly before these guys. But there’s a word of difference between most of those players and Sid, ovi, geno.

The guy is a broken record. When they win, it's because "we played the right way". When they lose, it's because "we didn't play the right way". In yesterday's post-game, he mentioned the 8mins of PK that the Pens were on in the 2nd, but didn't mention missed D assignments, being outshot 2:1, no O-zone time. He is like Geno ... mostly coasting.

If a trade’s gonna happen it needs to be like this week or else there’s no point.
- Victoro311

If you need a trade this week to save the season, are you even good enough to be a buyer?

I was wondering yesterday if hextall and Burke up in the view box for practice yesterday was to watch coaching.

You’re right, Late 90s were ok. Early 2000’s were the dark ages. I clearly remember those - I moved to DC in 2000. The Penguins were awful in 2002 and on but they still dominated the Caps. That brought me a great deal of joy.
- chimpira

I thought your late 90s reference fit well. Not good enough to make a run, but not bad enough to drop out of the playoff chase to start rebuilding and getting high draft picks.

Absolutely, and I dont even put Matthews in there with Mcdavid. I think he's a notch below. I rank them like 1-6 stars. Ovi, Sid, Geno, Mcdavid are 6 star players which are rare. Matthews I put in the 5 star category. MacKinnon is like the highest of 5 star for me but with his slower start to his career that's why I don't have him as a 6 star, it wasn't until his 5th season he was a 90 point player and he's never had 100.

It seems to be the case here. But it's hard to fathom doing a rebuild while Sid, Geno and Letang are on the roster. I think we see them off into the sunset and start again with rigging the draft lottery :-)

There’s obvious enough team construction issues that don’t need further evaluation IMO. A new coach won’t change the fact that we don’t have enough good wingers or that we only have three NHL centers.

We almost went on a cup run but the Devils beat us. Jagr ran line 1 and our 2nd line was Lang Starka Kovalev.

I mean I could see the argument that new coaching could improve special teams, especially the PP.

That was an amazing 2nd line. Straka was such a speed demon. And Kovy - such a sniper. And Lang ... well, the guy looked like a Muppet LOL

Right, but what do you use to get them? I want to see a new coach come in to get a better look at what players should stay and which should go in order to get said players.

What bothers me about Sully's comments, and I don't expect him to go all Therrien, but he rarely says anything to the respect of "That was just unacceptable." Maybe he's just putting on a show for the media, but it always makes me question what he sees and doesn't see.

The answers I feel we always hear are, "There were some good things I saw out there and we just have to get better at them, and learn from mistakes." That drives me nuts.
