Something like McCann/Petts + POJ/Poulin and a pick. - Feds91Stammer
My guess is POJ is untouchable at this point. I really could care less about Poulin or Legare if it helps this team get back to the cup before Sid and Geno hang them up. |

I got another tip from my source on a potential 3 way deal.
To VGK: Bernier
To DET: Jarry
To PIT: MAF (50% retained by DET)
This is just the framework and other pieces would be included. - Feds91Stammer
Doesn’t make sense for Vegas on the surface, but they’d obviously have another move to use the extra cap space to strengthen their roster
Detroit would be the huge winner in this one. No risk move for StevieY

Getzlaf is a hulking bruiser, which doesn’t fit your mold GMRW. He also has some grit to him, which you abhor. His Corsi for/plus minus hero chart possession entry cherry picker flimflam numbers are pedestrian. How many needles does he move? You treat this poop like NHL 21.
Here’s another, even less popular idea. Make Sidney Crosby your third line center in the next few years. Have him take on the Trottier role. Kill penalties, vie for the Selke. Start trying to find a 1st line center. If you wanna go big (like Getzlaf) then go really big. |

I love it, get Getzlaf. We can give him our trash 3C. Not sure who our 3C is right now though, Blueger or Malkin? |

Given that Petterson and Poulin are out two best expendable assets Id rather use them in hockey trades that bring someone back with term. And no I have no idea who I’d target.
Agree with Rino: POJ would be real stupid to move now. A middle pairing guy on ELC is not something I can think we can afford to move.
EDIT: Rino, not Dupuis. |

Well on March 1st. Getzlaf 50% retained for Petterson and Poulin is only a $93k increase cap wise for PIT.
And MAF 50% retained for Jarry has no cap impact. |

Ummm i understand petterson is a top 4 dman on Pitt (that’s currently not saying much), on a contender he’s a 3rd pair dman. To win now it costs actual assets Pitt is real short on right now. Either pay up and go for it or retool for what is left in Crosby’s tank for next year. Moving Jarry for MAF is silly imo at this point due to cost/play of both goalies. Stick with jarry and build up in front of him. He’s young enough that he can still improve where MAF is on the wrong side of the age spectrum and usage to spend assets on. If you wanna improve on goalie, go with someone with less “tread” on the tires so to speak. Looking at the East division as a whole, imho Pitt is on the outside looking in no matter what they do at this point. Too many issues to solve for a shortened season |

I get that for sure. Market is thin though especially for centers. Probably looking at the Fabbri tier of players if you want someone with term. |

I only post when I have concrete info.
The offer for getzlaf is Marcus, legare and a 2nd 2021
Ducks to retain 50%.
The issue is Getzlaf not really willing to move his family to Pittsburgh. |

My only issue with moving Pettersson in a deal like that is I think the Pens can make a better hockey trade involving Pettersson. If there were a way to sub in McCann and hight draft pick I'd rather do that, but my guess is that's a non-starter.

Yeah I think unless we get a sweetheart deal for Getzlaf because he only wants to come here and the Ducks want to do right by him, I think we should go back to what Boyd and I were talking about and go after a scoring winger instead. Bet on the Blueger unit to step up a bit offensively and officially make them the 3rd line and retool the 4th line.
There’s no perfect answer this season. We have multiple expensive needs and hardly any assets. Some risks need to be taken and trust some of the players we already have. |

I would rather the 3C, but I don't think there's much available to the Pens, so obviously scoring winger is next.
I would still look to bring Grant back from ANA to be 4C. |

Plus I am sure Anaheim will get alot more if/when he is moved.
You're talking B or C level prospects and a mid-late 2nd. I am sure teams would pony up more for Getzlaf, especially with Anaheim retaining

I dont know why getting Getzlaf is a crazy idea, a few of us have been talking about that for a year and it seems like the obvious move for filling the Pens biggest holes.
The Ducks won't care for any of the Pens D as they won't be worth trading for and protecting.
If Getzlaf wants to go, I'm sure the Ducks would do him a solid ala JJ Watt. McCann and next years 1st for half retained would do it. Getzlaf has something like $2M left on his contract so they won't mind retaining. |

The more plausible deal with the Ducks might be for Henrique. His contract is a bit juicy but could easily be offset by sending Matheson the other way with picks/ prospects. |

Ducks don’t have a ton worth protecting imo so that shouldn’t be a huge concern. |

I don’t think it would take much to get getzlaf because if Pitt, or whoever, acquired him, it’s because he wanted to try for another cup then go right back home again. They will take back a 4-4.5m contract and prob a mid round pick. That’s it.
I’m also not overly concerned about a goalie because 1, as mentioned above getting Gibson would be keeping us from tanking. Also Boston has the only legit net minder in this division. Nyi have varly but basically every other goalie in the division is a rookie or has been.
I’d still aim for rakell. Good cap hit under 4mil I believe. Another year after this before ufa. 27 years old. Is a finisher more so than a playmaker. Right shot. Plays both wings so he ‘can move around the lineup.’ Burkie needs to call in a favour at Anaheim lol
McCann and Kap on the “3rd line”. Just need to find a remotely useful centre for them. Maybe Derek grant can be had in the same deal. |

Well they have 4 Defencemen I would protect over Petterson, not to mention, I think the Pens are the only team that is cool with paying +$4M to players they intend to play on the bottom pair. |

It’s weird to me how undervalued Pettersson seems to be on here. Last year, Pettino was as statistically sound of a second pairing as they come. How much of that was Marino being brilliant? I don’t know, but I also know that a pairing doesn’t get to be that good with one half of it being a complete passenger, and Pettersson had a decent sample of elevating a constantly poopty Gudbranson in a sheltered role. I think Pettersson is a solid but unspectacular second pairing defenseman being paid about market price. Contract isn’t good or bad, it’s just fair, and second pairing defensemen seem to be consistently one of the most overvalued and coveted assets at the trade deadline. Pets isn’t a spring chicken anymore, but he’s also young enough that he’s locked up for what should be the majority of his prime. Maybe not young enough to be part of the Ducks’ future, but should recoup a good amount of value if flipped. |

I know some people view pens fans as delusional. But I’ve saw 2 trades posted by fans of other teams that blew me away.
Pittsburgh:
Aaron Ekblad D
Anton Lundell C
Spencer Knight G
2nd 2022
2nd 2021
Florida:
Evgeni Malkin C
And
: Crosby (50% salary retained)
Pittsburgh : Byram, Bowers, Newhook, 2021 1st, 2022 1st
See! We aren’t the most delusional. The malkin trade was posted by a Hans fan so you know, he is French. Imagine both of these happened though. That’s a jump start to a rebuild. Yikes. Truth be told most big trades I’m fairly underwhelmed by what is given and have thought Pitt could of closely matched several of them over the years, such as the Hall trade. Especially with no rising cap I think we are overvaluing contracts. Look at Schmidt going for a 3rd round pick I believe. I don’t think upgrading a couple things is unreasonable, but I also don’t think we need a tremendous amount of change. |
|
|
|
Not to mention imagine hextall pulled off that malkin trade, then the following offseason he resigned with us at a home town discount. |

Would be nice to have my thoughts on Getzlaf acknowledged and not just plagiarized. - Feds91Stammer
Nah. RW likes to steal ideas from the thread and act like he invented them. I had no doubt before opening the blog it would be about Getzlaf.
Biggest hurdle is unless something has changed, Getzlaf has been vocal about not waiving his NMC. |
