MAF is NOT better than Kuemper. MAF has played on a better team in Vegas. Arizona has been borderline terrible.

I don't have inside sources. But...

Vegas was looking to create cap space to take a run at Pietrangelo. So they discussed moving MAF. The price was not crazy high. Multiple sources reported that Vegas was willing to surrender assets just to give him away.

So Vegas then decided to keep MAF, especially with Lehner having surgery. Instead, they let Schmidt go and traded Stastny, which created more than enough space to sign Pietrangelo and keep Lehner/MAF.

But again, I just have hockey knowledge, but no sources.

Lehner's gotta be frustrating to have as a GM. All the talent in the world, starting with his time in Ottawa. I know he's had his personal struggles, but the biggest one seems to be that when he has some success, it's "good enough" and he reverts to playing with reduced drive. It's like he's trying to prove something and once he does in a certain city, his play drops off and he gets moved. IDK this is just a perception.

Here's a few crazy thoughts. Maybe Vegas keeps MAF because he's worth more to them than anything they could receive in a trade? Or perhaps they keep him just in case Lehner struggles or gets injured again? Nah. MAF is a multiple Cup winning goalie. Better trade him.

Having 2 top notch goalies playing in a condensed schedule can't be a good thing can it Ek? Vegas is a Cup contender. Having MAF and Lehner sharing the crease is a nice thing to have. MAF has also proven himself to be a great teammate as well. A leader even. But Ek will Ek.

Than Lehner? He certainly is. Crawford was better than Lehner last year as well. Lehner isn't bad, but he's at best above average. If you can find a metric - any metric - where Lehner is better than Fleury (aside from tattoos) I'd be happy to see it.
