Oh the Habs are a totally different animal.

I went ahead and deleted my Facebook. I watched The Social Dilemma and was thinking about it anyway. About a month after watching that, I finally did it and haven’t looked back. I got sucked into the app way to much and am better off without it. I’m not trying to sway anyone in that direction or anything.

I did try and get my sister to watch it so she might limit my niece’s screen time as she gets older and kind of monitor social media habits. She’s only 9 months so I thought it could help prepare. She’s already infatuated with screens. It’s also not my place at all, but I figured a recommendation to watch something without any context hoping that she formulated her own opinion wasn’t too much of an imposition.

I don't mind it, but I doubt I am even on it more than once a week.

We are fighting a real battle with my son right now. At 14, he is always asking to being on some social media platform or post a tiktok video or whatever. He is extremely small and immature for his age. We are struggling to keep him away from stuff like that because I don't want him to be victimized by cyber-bullying, on top of the struggles he is already going to have in some areas of his life. I think the more your kids pull away from you, the more you need to be diligent as a parent. Tough balance between letting them grow up and exercise their independence and trying to help them and protect them.

Nope, the problem is that the league is, for some reason, loathe to enforce the rules. It is like there is still this old-guard out there deciding that the games should be dirty and scores remain as low as possible.

This has been the problem for the Leafs. Dubas has, stupidly, assumed that a team based solely on skill could succeed and that their powerplay would be their enforcer. The flaw there is obvious, especially in the playoffs.

Boston had better special teams. They could afford to run the Leafs all over the place. The penalty calls were going to even out anyway. so ultimately they realized they could do whatever they want, both disrupting the leafs and winning the powerplay battle from the even-up calls.

I don't want the NHL to turn into basketball, but I would like to see it a little more like football where they see a problem, they implement a rule.

The glaring example this year was the crosscheck on Matthews. We all know that happens all game long. The problem is that it is a penalty that is clearly not called and not calling it only serves to even out the play for the less talented teams.

I agree with you.

The St. Louis Blues gave us a taste of our own medicine in that regard in ‘19. There’s other teams that do it. Even the Lightning had to make some adjustments to finally win it. Coleman is tough to play against and they didn’t acquire Goodrow at that price for nothing.

There should be more consistency with the way postseason and regular season games are called, but as you say, I don’t want this turning into basketball. It’s a tough line to walk and if they chose to address it, somehow, I hope they don’t ruin a good thing. Because the playoffs are great, even if you feel a call went against you.

Do you use the app on your phone or a website on a computer?

I used the app and would mindlessly scroll through it with all of the groups I was in. I’d be watching a game and once there was a commercial I’d pick up phone and eventually find my way there and miss 1/2 a period. I’m kind of ashamed to admit it, but their algorithm had me, so I deleted it.

Anthony Hopkins is perhaps the worst over-actor of all time. His portrayal of Hannibal Lecter had the subtle nuance of a drag show. And the movie itself just wasn’t that great.

Watch the original Manhunter. 100 times better, and that Hannibal Lecter was truly scary.

- Atomic Wedgie

I love Manhunter but Silence of the Lambs was (frank)ing amazeballs.

I also love Mads Mikkelsen's portrayal of Lecter in the Hannibal TV series. Then again, I love that guy in pretty much everything he's ever done. For example, his over-the-top performance in the Pusher films. So damn versatile!

If we are asking tough questions, how does a player lick another player - twice! - and not get a penalty?
- Atomic Wedgie

As stupid as it sounds... what is the reason for allowing a water bottle to be thrown on the ice to delay the game with no consequence.

If a team threw a water bottle on the ice from the bench in the first period of a game tonight, it would be a penalty.

I really don't get how the league justifies this, but then cracks down HARD all of a sudden and completely (frank)s a team over.

Manhunter is very good. 👍 I like Hopkins though. I think he's a great actor. Especially in The Bounty. I didn't like Silence of the Lambs 2. I enjoyed Hannibal (tv show)even though I didn't really understand what was going on most of the time.

My daughter turns 8 tomorrow and she has become increasingly absorbed in playing games like Roblox and Minecraft while on Messenger Kids chatting with her cousins/friends (which we monitor -- she doesn't get to play these games out of earshot).

It's a tough situation what with the season and the pandemic. It's hard to push back when there are very little avenues for social interaction during these weird times.

We've resisted her requests for her own YouTube channel(!) and apps like TikTok. But I can only imagine how much more pressure there is and having to weave in and out of a minefield per social media and a young teenager.

Ugh.

Nobody who was watching could justify the non-call when that Bruins Dman was completely upended right in front of everyone, late in a critical game. You are exactly right, the refs decided that the Bruins should live by the sword and die by the sword. The whole idea of calling a game with that sub-text is ridiculous.

Honest question... why even have a rulebook for anything except technicalities.

Start focusing on the SDNY AG’s office. That’s when justice will come to town.

Of course, he won’t actually go to jail or lose his money or anything...

It’s never been about getting a conviction. Make the case. Make the Republican Senators back him in spite of it and bury themselves with Trump. More damning witnesses which they just agreed to helps that.

Also, a Republican Senator just had to be separated from attacking Mitt Romney

Very true that it is tougher now with no other social outlet. Thankfully it helps that close friends of ours have a son his age and they are also very strict with their kids. They are a teacher and a principal and my wife is a teacher.

I think when teachers are concerned about that stuff, it should send up a big red flag for everyone else. teachers often have a better idea how kids are doing than the parents do.

I too have the same problem, same age, same size. It really drags me down trying to keep him off the internet, it’s a constant battle. Also have a 12 year old young lad so I get it 2x.

Might be the stronger part of their argument ....ie. finding that his words/actions incited or encouraged was going to be hard. But if they can show that he failed to act to prevent the damage that too is impeachable. Enough to convince more GOP's to vote ..probably not. But, big picture it's more facts on the table in the court of public opinion. And hopefully drives a few more Trump-Zombies into the abyss.

We are in the same boat. We absolutely know our younger daughter has too much screen time, but ffs, it’s the only social interaction she has right now. But if the world ever gets back to normal, it’s going to be great fun trying to get her to dial back.

Fun story: she was being bullied online by a kid from school. Vice Principal was really good about it, but warned us it was a bit of a grey area because it was technically outside of school.

The little poop’s parents were in denial. They “had a talk with him”, “took away his phone for a weekend,” etc. No change.

We were figuring out next steps, including possibly making her go to online (last resort).

Then the little poop dropped the N word on another student in the playground.

Our problems were solved.

re: the bolded, therein lies the problem right now. Ultimately, I think you need to draw the line at social media. It is a cesspool, all of it, and it is dangerous for young people.

Good the little poop got nailed for his bad behavior. The consequences should have come from the parents.

My son just turned 10....

Until covid hit, he was the only one of his classmates who didn’t play video games. Some of them have been playing Fortnite since they were 7. I was able to keep my son busy with sports to avoid that scene. Due to COVID-19..... he needs it for social interaction with his friends. Two kids in our small town (12&14) have hung themselves in the last 2 weeks due to bullying.

Actually a few years ago he was in Karate. He progressed up to Blue belt and then we quit, and subsequently I quit.

The thing is, he was so small and so physically immature that it had become silly. He was being progressed unreasonably imho.

I have considered that he will go back again. Right now, he is 4'9" at 14.5 and still not at a stage where I feel he can really learn. He has friends who have a relative with a dojo so I think he will maybe go there

When my kid was 6 we signed him up for judo. My wife took him in for his first lesson and he made up a new name for himself when they got there. When the sensei found out it wasn’t his real name he suggested that maybe the discipline of judo might not be for him.
