What about a McCann/Byron swap or do you stick with McCann?
- Rinosaur

I don't understand why people suggest that a way to fix the Pens bottom 6 is by trading their best bottom 6 forward who is 24 years old and has scored at a 20 goal 40 point pace since being traded for. At best they're lateral moves but I don't think lateral moves are going to help. This isn't directed only at this post.

I think McCann is miscast in his role.

Also, I was simply inquiring. I was pretty clear that I had no real sufficient knowledge of Byron.

Not to me. Part or all of his salary needs to be dumped so the Pens can afford to add players.

Both Borque and Loney recently stated on Madden that Matheson hasn't had a full training camp and only a few weeks of games. They said give the guy a chance and he should do welll....Im willing to wait and give the guy a chance... It seems like he is the new JJ, it started with RW saying how bad he is and parroted by a number of fans on this website. Rw and a lot of the same fans didn't give Reaves or Gubranson a fair shake and they both have been doing well since leaving the Pens...they both would.look good in a Pens uniform and it seemed like the whole team played a few inches taller with those 2 on the ice...

Matheson has been fine, his contract is dogsh!t sure but his on ice product has been just as good as any other Pens dman.

This is a really tired narrative. Matheson has played four full NHL seasons and his issues continue to be the same issues. These issues have continued with the Pens, so it's not like a full camp was going to make these issues disappear.

Is there a worse contract in the NHL than Erik Karlsson?

This just isn't true on any level.

Most of us were happy with guddy just not at his cap hit. I’d take him back happily if he was 2m or less. Actually surprisingly happy with ceci. Reaves I didn’t mind either sully just wouldn’t play him. Jj was bad. MM so far has been pretty bad but hopefully it can only go up.

A lateral trade involving McCann would be fine if it acquired someone who has something pitt needs. Like a net front prescience. Otherwise I’d rather trade ? For someone to play higher up the lineup and put zucker or Kap on a lower line. We just don’t have a whole lot to trade and I don’t see hexy using draft stock like JR did. We potentially have a LD to trade if everyone is healthy some day.

He's on the ice for more high danger chances and goals against than most of the Pens' dmen.

I'd throw back at what cost? 5 more years, that won't be cheap to move right now. One year of Mark Staal cost a 2nd.

I never said it was possible or easy. lol

I'm not pretending I have a good sense on how to get it done, but I'm willing to throw the Pens' 2nd round pick this year and prospect. This draft is such crap, so I'm fine with ditching the 2nd to right a wrong.

If there is any truth that LA was after MM I’d be Inquiring ASAP. They do have the most cap space in the nhl so that helps.

Edit - LA top pair LD has 6 games exp before this year. 2nd pair LD has 100 games played in 4 years. 3rd pair is maatta. They could use MM right? Haha

Stats don't lie and by your logic you can't make the claim you did either.

Huh? By my logic..

Other than the first game of the year where the Pens couldnt buy a bounce MM has been fine. Marino has been the problem on the Pens defense this year.

You're saying he's been as good as any Pens' dman, but then when I presented my argument you said it's 4 games so mine isn't true. That makes no sense.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1) Letang and Marino are having bad seasons and if that doesn’t change it doesn’t really matter if our 3LD is good or not. 2) Mike Matheson is a dreadful player on a poison pill contract that contributes poorly to the on ice product and will make the process of trying to acquire the forwards we need extremely difficult.

It makes sense just fine. In the games he has played he has been fine. He belongs on our second pairing based on his play.

The issue I take is that his claim is valid, but mine isn't because he's only played four games.

Ok, so four games is fine for you claim, but not mine. Got it.
