Had an interesting trade idea. We potentially had interest in another goalie aka Fleury.
Previously this off-season there were multiple rumors in Florida and LA that the Kings were trying to acquire Matheson before he was traded to the Pens.
Maybe Hextall can work his magic for a Matheson to Kings in a trade for Quick. There would probably be other moving pieces, but it could be an option. - 123Kid
Matheson for Quick would be one of the few trades that would be an L for PIT |

A t-shirt?!?! Oh snap!
Which division are you in?
Also, what a dumbpoop. If I'm making three accounts, I'm at least trying out three different lineups to hedge. I wonder if this dude posts under three different names. |

Esposito. I'm 104th overall right now.
Most people playing HBSL don't even post on this site which is even weirder to me. |

Yeah, that is odd. I'm working my way up the division right now. The first two weeks (frank)ed me because of covid, but now I'm about to win three in a row. I'll probably have to win the rest of my weeks if I'm going to make the wild card. |

I took Saros because NSH had 4 games and 2 against DET. He only got 1 start and posted a whopping 0 points. Likely a L for me this week. |

Hextall probably has inroads with the Kings and the Flyers, Burkie with the Flames
It we are moving our problems for their problems, look at those teams
Burke has a lot of long term relationships around the league. Probably has a lot to do with his hire also. These GM's trade favours as much as they do players

Ouch. I'm doing pretty well this week, but I'm winning easily because my opponent didn't pay attention to the all the teams that were down, so I'm crushing him. |

Tatar healthy scratched because Julien is being an idiot. Call up MTL. |

With no real assets in the draft or prospect pool, Hextall is going to have to make some hockey trades... maybe make some 1 for 1 trades with guys like McCann, Pettersson, and even Zucker.
Got to change this team up. |

The only poopty thing about trading to a Canadian team is having to wait the two week quarantine, but I would do it in a heartbeat. |

It's easy to make dumb decisions when a good deal of your team is rocking high PDO. It will be interesting to see how long MTL keeps that up. |

3rd wheel, not 3rd line. As in they should be the 3rd best player on the 2nd line.
Pens could of had a chance to bring someone in but they went out and wasted cap space on:
Ceci: 1.25m
Jankowski: 700k
Erod: 700k
Scevour 1.2m
That's like 3.85m that could have been used to say.. try for Hoffman? Not saying he wanted to come here.. but at least having the option to sign him at 4m would have been nice.
Guentzel-Sid-Rust
Hoffman-Geno-Kap
Zucker-McCann-Horny
ZAR-Blueg-Tanev
looks a bit more complete than that forward list we got now. - j.boyd919
JRs strategy was to build a deep roster because it was obvious there were going to be more man games lost this year. The problem is, he tied up all of their cap space in guys who weren't much better than Ahl players.
I'll disagree with you on Ceci though, he has actually been really solid. Hoffman would have been that Kessel like acquisition where you get an extra guy who can just create goals out of nowhere. |

It's OK to sit a guy down for a game. Who knows the reasoning, especially in a season like this. They track guys HRV and measure fatigue to keep guys from burning out, could be something simple like that. Could be he was exposed to someone who had covid and they are being extra safe.
The true thing to be concerned about is why you care so much? |

Trading for Jonathan Quick at this stage of his career makes little sense. His best days are behind him. A little a bit of father time and the Kings defense are the culprits. This 2021 and not when he was winning cups. His stats this year are no better than Jarry's. His GGA is over and save percentage below 90%. I would have taken him 3-4 years ago, but not now. plus that $5.8 salary does not due us any justice with cap space.

I don’t know man Matheson’s contract is insane. I don’t think I’d do that if I were the Kings. |

I am going to push back here. Rutherford's strategy has always been build from the top down. That method is great for headlines and water cooler talk. But not for long term viability.
The best fish he could land was Kapanen. Once he got him it was just moves to make moves.
We are going to enter a different strategy here. Hextall is going to build from the bottom up. It is a time consuming but effective approach. Not good for much now but will pay dividends later.

All strategies are good if the right decisions are made. Rutherford's strategy to keep the team competitive was completely valid, but poorly executed. |

I'll start to think of what I believe are good trades for Matheson, but the reality sets in and it's not good. Nobody is taking that contract. Maybe if the Pens had a #1 pick and a top prospect they could pull it off, but they don't. Seattle will not bail the Pens out and no team, not even at 50% retained would likely take him.
I firmly believe there are only two options to get rid of Matheson:
1) The worst option: Trading Matheson for Lucic, Neal or the like.
2) Buyout. Which IMO is the wisest decision, but I can't see that happening. They can't do that right now anyway, so regardless we're stuck with Matheson for at least this season.
EDIT: With all that said, I still believe if there's any team where they could possibly win a trade with it would be AZ. |

Buying out Matheson would saddle us with a sizable cap hit for like a decade because of how long the contract is. I’d rather take a bad a different bad contract for him. |

For next season it would be 1.3M which isn't bad. The next three years would be a little rough at $2.3 and then $1.4M until 2030 lol. Yeah, i guess that's not great.

Yeah I find that pretty unacceptable. I do not want to knee cap our rebuild off the bat by having to deal with a cap hit like that given how important leveraging cap space is during a rebuild. The ability to take on bad contracts for draft pick compensation is a good way to expedite rebuilds. |

If the buyout hit was around $1.3 for the next three years I'd be all for it, but since it creeps into the ability to extend the window I don't like it. $1.3M during the rebuild really isn't that bad, but that three year chunk of $2.3 is just bad.
All of AZ's defense aside from OEL and Chychrun are UFA's after this year. I find it likely that Gogo and Hjarl are heading towards retirement or if they play, probably taking a cheap contract with a contender.
If they are planning to get into a rebuild, I think there's a fit.
