I don’t see sulsma going anywhere anytime soon unfortunately.

Burke is not known for his patience....look at our coaches....a retread , a life AHL legend , a stubborn mule that has had luxury of coaching two of the top 5 generational players? Burke has gone on record as saying the Pen’s are lucky in spite of themselves.

The answer is no.

Yeah, Burke swung and missed trying to get Tavares already so you’re probably right. Pens will want plus, which would be Liljegren Campbell and JT for Crosby and one of your bust goaltenders. That’s fair?

I know they need to go, but hopefully you’re right about Burke’s patience.

They have the following:
-2nd in 2021
-Full boat of picks in 2022
-Poulin, Legare, the two goalie prospects

These may not be sexy assets and yes I know the 2021 draft is crap, but in the right package they could help the Pens make some solid moves.

- Rinosaur

Perfect example of why the prospect cupboard is bare. Aside from the picks, it ain’t much.

Lemieux has told both Burke and Hextall, "Crosby and Malkin are not to be traded." More importantly, Crosby's salary drops substantially the final three years of his contract-$3M per year.

Assuming I am playing the role of Burke, I had better have a deal that is completely one sided. Therefore, I am looking for good players with salary retained and draft picks, specifically numerous #1 and #2 picks. Along with Tavares.

I can't see any scenario in the near future where Crosby gets traded.

If the Pens decide to go full rebuild I could see Crosby requesting a shot at more cups elsewhere. Montreal is the team though.

I hope it's with the Pens, but I could honestly see Crosby being a guy who would take a $1-3M deal with a contender, even if he is still a top 10 player in the league.

Stars watch what each other do, and I could easily see Crosby looking at Brady and thinking that being with one team your whole career is overrated.

The biggest, most exciting thing for the league would be a Crosby trade to Montreal and leading them to a cup.

That day will come eventually, when it does Crosby's trade value drops to the going rate for aging stars at the trade deadline. An NHL player, a prospect, and a first rounder. It will be news when that day happens, not before.

Yes, Montreal would likely be one of Crosby's destinations, along with Colorado.

All this Crosby trade talk I doubt he goes anywhere I see him eventually being like Lemieux with this organization. I could see the same holding true for Malkin.

I do think this talk about size/gritty players does make one think Crouse, Bennett, and Virtanen would be targets this season. I feel like McCann is going to be our trade chip once he comes back from injury.

I think this regime is going to target someone like Landeskog this offseason and/or maybe some larger tougher Defenseman. These are all just speculation of course.

They may try to add a player like those mentioned above, but I think the off season is where we'll start to see Burke's fingerprints. Hextall gives me comfort. He won't be bringing in plugs just because they fit the "truculence" mold. The more I think about this marriage, the more I like it.

Does RW forget his “all speed and skill” had exactly 1 successful stint over a few months in 2016?

By his own admission they were massively outplayed in the 2017 playoffs and “lucked” their way to that Stanley Cup

Maybe he can keep scrolling the fancy stats in his phone. I wasn’t under the impression he actually watched the games anyways

I would be inclined to see if gudbranson would come back to pitt as a 3rd pair D but idk if he would leave Ottawa as I’m sure they would also offer him a cheap contract. Maybe dadonov would be able to be acquired for something not too high as I’m sure he would be happy to leave a losing team where he has mostly struggled so far.

Landeskog would be a get! And Colorado might not be able to afford him, I could see him being flipped and resigned at the deadline though so they don’t lose him for nothing in the offseason.

Totally random, but I think a mistake the Pens have made this year is not utilizing McCann at Center. I really believe, that despite his lack of production, he's more effective at center. I still think back to last year how he held up as 2C through all those injuries.

I think it's easier to find/trade for a 3rd line LW than it is a 3C and while again, he may not produce a ton, he can help facilitate play better at C than LW.

Petts is in full practice garb. Looks like he might be in next game which would be big and would be good to reunite him with Marino. Reduced minutes for mm.

if I was to trade 1 dman (assuming all are healthy and mm is unmovable) it would be dumo. He’s oldest, has lost a step since his last ankle injury, and rumour has it this injury is an Achilles tear, so that might take another step from him.

No he’s not. Dude can’t score to save his life. Cool he runs around and hits people.
- Feds91Stammer

I know he's not a great player, but he can contribute. He scored 15 goals in 66 hames last year and 11 the year before. I'd rather have him in the lineup than Sceviour and they're roughly the same price. I'm not one to hold physical players up on a pedestal, but the Pens could definitely use a little snarl right now.

Adding a cheap young player who can bring that element in place of Sceviour would be a good add IMO. I wouldn't give up any major chips for him, but if they can have him on the cheap he'd be an upgrade over certain players.

red-rover, red-rover, send phil kessel (50% retained) back over. Trade him for Kapanen, again.

Were you not paying attention when RW pasted graphs and charts all over this site showing how massively the Penguins were outplayed in the 2017 playoffs and basically PDO'd the way to the cup?

Yet in the same breath, this is the type of hockey he is clamouring to get back to

If Burke wants "Players with Long Pants" who are his trade chips? I'm going to assume he wants these guys for the bottom 6, or Defense. Maybe 1 to play with Sid or Geno while Kapanen/Zucker/Rust takes a spot on the 3rd line

McCann
Matheson (Look for a Lucic type return)
Petterson
Dumo

These guys are all pudding soft, and would have some value. Look for Burke to try to get the odd "3rd round pick" thrown into any trade give Hextall something to work with in the draft pick cupboard

Letang is by far his best trade chip. I've seen a couple of comments from Burke now noting that he only has "1 year left on his deal"

If you think the hockey the Pens played in the 2017 playoffs is the same brand of hockey they played in the 2016 playoffs, you need to lay off the crack pipe.
