I'd throw back at what cost? 5 more years, that won't be cheap to move right now. One year of Mark Staal cost a 2nd.

I honestly wonder if Matheson and his contract was a significant factor in his quick departure. I also wonder if the blow up between Karmanos and JR was about Matheson too. Taking on such an onerous contract could have definitely created significant friction.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1) Letang and Marino are having bad seasons and if that doesn’t change it doesn’t really matter if our 3LD is good or not. 2) Mike Matheson is a dreadful player on a poison pill contract that contributes poorly to the on ice product and will make the process of trying to acquire the forwards we need extremely difficult.

See this is the problem here. People are muddying MM play against his contract and the hypothetical players we could have. If you remover his contract from the equation he has been fine this year.

It's only four games. You can't really say that yet.

Your bar for fine is pretty (frank)ing low. He’s a mediocre bottom pairing defenseman, putting him in the lower tiers of NHL caliber defenseman.

Based on the games I have seen him play, which is 4. I dont have a problem with his game.

The guy is worse than Riikola who isn’t even that good. Your eye test is weird as poop, especially given your history of criticizing Letang for turnovers. Matheson is a TO machine.

No, you go do your own research and lay it out. I dont believe fancy stats hold the same value as you do. I appreciate MM ability to get up and back into the play, his strength along the boards. Im okay with the defense playing defense

Well, if you watched the games you'd see he turns it over on the regular. More than most.

I havent seen MM turnover the puck as much as Letang. It also matter where you turn over the puck, on the rush at the opponents blueline is not equal to the forces pass through our own slot ala Kris Letang at least twice a game.

I never said it was possible or easy. lol

I'm not pretending I have a good sense on how to get it done, but I'm willing to throw the Pens' 2nd round pick this year and prospect. This draft is such crap, so I'm fine with ditching the 2nd to right a wrong.

- Rinosaur

At a 2nd and a prospect not named Poulin or maybe Legare, sure. I'd be shocked if that gets it done.

Those sites are garbage

Somehow our 1st and 2nd lines are supposed to be 55% against other teams 4th lines and 3rd pairings, yet in the same breath when our 3rd/4th lines and 3rd pairings are sub 50% its oUr pLaYeRs aRe sO bAd

Teams top lines will always match against opponents lower lines and in almost all cases they will have success. It's up to our top lines to have GREATER success against opponents lower lines, than theirs does against ours

Who has Matheson even played with? Jank, Blueger, Erod and Sceviour? Our "bonafide #1 Defenseman" hogs all the Crosby/Malkin ice time and all he delivers is turnovers
