If Woll turns into a bonafide starter for the Leafs.

Are you guys going to be happy he turned out well?

Or pissed that Max was right all along?

- Scabeh

To be precise Max had him as the starter ...this year.

If Max said Woll is great and will eventually be the Leafs starter when he's ready - nobody would've batted an eye.

So yes we'll all be happy if Woll takes the net as a top level bonafide starter. Max was already wrong.

He actually admitted being a little early in his prediction but still 100% believes the guy will end as the starter.

Which is much more reasonable than the initial bold call.

Some guys can't help themselves with strong opinions. if they throw out enough really strong opinions they'll eventually be right about something.

I believe we call that Uggienomics.

It's not a pessimistic view of his progression -- it's a statistical view of him historically using his natural shooting % and average number of shots taken a season.

Also, Anderson has only played one full season. He's a hard-nosed player and, the season prior to the one he played the full 82, he missed 19 games. Fluke injuries? Maybe, I dunno.

I think it's a fair assessment. 🤷

I understand the analysis.

But I think there's one thing that stats cannot truly evaluate: Player progression.

You tend to expect players to get better until they hit their ceiling. Anderson's stats are hurt by his first two years and his major injury (where he played while diminished). So if you take his whole career statswise, it's not fair to him and his progression imo.

He's been getting better every year. Was what he accomplished 2 years ago his ceiling? Can he do more?

Time will tell.

Statistics can show trends and allow us to make predictions on a player's progression. Granted, the sample size is still small and there are all kinds of fancy stats I'm sure teams have that can provide much better analysis than I've given.

But yes, he might start to shoot more and also have a sustainable shooting % that allow him to be that 27 goal guy he was a couple years ago, consistently.

Time will tell, indeed. In the meantime, I get to be cautiously pessimistic -- especially, when it's a dirty Habs player.

Hello jribout!

Obviously there's always the chance one of or both players decide to retire before the end of their contract but for arguments sake, let's say they both play until 25-26.

Big decisions in the next 2 years will determine how much trouble the Habs are in.

Guys like Danault, Armia, Weal and Tatar aren't signed past this season and unless they take a very reasonable salary, are most likely gone. Which frees up around 11M on the cap. That 11M should, in theory, be more than enough to compensate Kotkaniemi, Suzuki and Romanov unless all three someone become PPG players (which would be great, despite the higher cap hits).

You also have guys like Chiarot and Kulak coming off the books in 2 years. Habs have a very interesting prospect pool on defense coming up so the plan is most likely to have young guys replace them moving forward.

Add to that the odds of losing an Edmundson or Allen to Seattle. I think the Habs should be fine with the cap if they do not overspend on resigning the ufas they do want to keep (personally, I'd rather keep Tatar for a reasonable price).

So yeah, that's how I see things.

Talk to you soon!

My stupid ass thought you were talking about the kids retiring by that age, at first.
