Isles just waived Leo Komarov. 3 mil AAV this season and next season. I doubt any team will take that on.

Huberdeau is maybe the most underrated player in the league right now but, to be fair, I can understand why some may have had Nylander rated higher in their first few seasons.

Anderson is currently shooting at an unsustainable rate of 23.1% which is more than double his career average. The wheels are ready to fall off.

I dont see the wheels falling off, more so, slowing down.

With Price and Weber on the books through 2025-26, and Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, and Romanov probably due some big raises in 2022 and 2023. Do you think the Habs face some cap issues starting in 2022?

- jribout

Hello jribout!

Obviously there's always the chance one of or both players decide to retire before the end of their contract but for arguments sake, let's say they both play until 25-26.

Big decisions in the next 2 years will determine how much trouble the Habs are in.

Guys like Danault, Armia, Weal and Tatar aren't signed past this season and unless they take a very reasonable salary, are most likely gone. Which frees up around 11M on the cap. That 11M should, in theory, be more than enough to compensate Kotkaniemi, Suzuki and Romanov unless all three someone become PPG players (which would be great, despite the higher cap hits).

You also have guys like Chiarot and Kulak coming off the books in 2 years. Habs have a very interesting prospect pool on defense coming up so the plan is most likely to have young guys replace them moving forward.

Add to that the odds of losing an Edmundson or Allen to Seattle. I think the Habs should be fine with the cap if they do not overspend on resigning the ufas they do want to keep (personally, I'd rather keep Tatar for a reasonable price).

So yeah, that's how I see things.

Talk to you soon!

Price will suffer some weird jock itch injury in 2023 and then go on LTIR forever.

I don't think anyone believes Josh Anderson will finish with 40 goals in 56 games if that's what you mean.

He's a 25-30 goal scorer powerforward in an 82 game season. I don't think he'll ever be more than that.

Which is fine.

- Scabeh

I think your assessment of Anderson is valid. He should be a 25-30 goal scorer during his prime(now). He was a very good add for Montreal. Is he a little over paid? Sure he is. But he adds good value to the Habs forward group. Dude is big and fast and can score. He is playing over his head at the moment through.

For what it's worth, despite being very pleased with how he's playing.

I still think the last 2 years of his contract have a good chance of being a problem.

Until then, i'll enjoy the fact we have a legitimate powerforward on this team for the first time since... oh god.... John Leclair?

Oh no wait, we had Erik Cole for a year!

If Woll turns into a bonafide starter for the Leafs.

Are you guys going to be happy he turned out well?

Or pissed that Max was right all along?

Makes sense. Same old catch 22. IF your players are too good they will cost a lot and make it difficult to replace the UFA.

That Leclair trade was a tough one (20/20)

Lol I forgot about Erik Cole!

I actually would likely trade Willy for Anderson as that is exactly what the Leafs need in their top 6.

The perfect scenario is for them to pull a Mackinnon or a Pacioretty.

Accept a long term contract for a reasonable price only to explode once signed and be considered a bargain.

But let's face it, this is all due to dumb luck in most cases.

Truly doubt he gets that much, but I agree, he likely wont fit with the Leafs cap. Im sure the suggestion will be to trade Nylander....

Brodie plays the right side, so no.

Brodie is a natural LHD who just happens to play RHD because Gio and now Rielly.

I think seeing him as a 15-20 goal scorer is a very pessimistic view of his progression.

And aside from his shoulder injury that ruined his last season, I'd say it's a little early to call him injury prone.

It's like people calling Weber fragile because he broke his foot that one time.

- Scabeh

It's not a pessimistic view of his progression -- it's a statistical view of him historically using his natural shooting % and average number of shots taken a season.

Also, Anderson has only played one full season. He's a hard-nosed player and, the season prior to the one he played the full 82, he missed 19 games. Fluke injuries? Maybe, I dunno.

I think it's a fair assessment. 🤷

I’ve flagged this for the referees.

You are pretending to be asking a friendly question, but we all know Max will never be right.

Enjoy your ban, you franking troll.

He's done that once. The amount he shoots and his career S% say he's not that.

Maybe in MTL he becomes that? 🤷 Surely, MB is banking on it.

I think he's been unspectacularly spectacular. I haven't much complaining about his play which, to me, says a lot about how he's faring on the top pair.

Wish Kadri hadn't nixed the original straight up trade for him.
