Brian Burke with us: "Pittsburgh's the last team to win with a small, fast team. The last 3 Cup winners have been big, they play long pants hockey, they play ugly hockey. I think we need to look at that & see, have we kept up with the joneses here?"

so good and realistic fits for that winger role (pending UFAs on team that might not be in a playoff spot come deadline)

- Marcus Sörensen

Remember last year when I constantly posted Anderson Jenner and Savard proposals for Toronto ?
Haters kept saying Anderson is a bust, will be overpaid, always injured etc
Two years ago.... wouldn’t shut up about how we needed Nurse Myers and Huberdeau
Nurse was defensively terrible etc
Myers was hot garbage etc
Huberdeau wasn’t as good as Nylander etc
Just sayin’.......
Sorry for sounding arrogant 😞 - mr.sir
That Anderson contract still scares me.

sweet sweet assist by dougie hamilton yesterday by the way.
makes so much sense for the leafs to target him this off-season; finally getting Rielly his legit d-partner. |

How would Dubas fit him in? Hamilton will likely get Pietrangelo money. |

Truly doubt he gets that much, but I agree, he likely wont fit with the Leafs cap. Im sure the suggestion will be to trade Nylander.... |

Brodie, Kerfoot, Nylander and Andersen should be of lesser importance to Leafs than potentially having Hamilton on this team.
Trade / don't resign those 4 guys, and there should be enough money to sign Hamilton, resign Hyman, get a goalie, and a sub for Nylander. |

Dubas just signed Brodie and now he's getting rid of him? Can't see that happening. Nylander will likely be a Leaf as long as Dubas is GM. It's been 4 years of "let's trade Willy" and he's still a Leaf. Kerfoot is expendable. I'll agree with that.
Freddy is likely gone. But when you say "get a goalie" it's not as easy as it seems. Getting a quality goalie to replace Freddy will be harder than you think. Just think of all the duds the Leafs had in net after Belfour and before Freddy. |

Vancouver decided to get rid of their reliable goaltender.
Look what it did to them.

The point was about playing in a weak division. By definition that makes getting to and performing well in the the playoffs easier. Having an easier path to the semifinals for a team that hasn’t made it out of the first round should be a good thing.
I’d much rather be in a division we have a good shots to win rather one where we’re destined to finish behind Boston and TBL and starting the first round against a much tougher opponent.
If we do make it out of the division, anything can happen.
Nice things about truisms like playoffs are different is that they’re, well true. But different or not, I like the possible trajectory of this division more than what we’ve faced in the past. - Canada Cup
I understood your point but that doesn't make me feel any better about this team's flaws nor their ability to play a tight checking, hard-nosed brand of hockey where you can't take large chunks of the game off.
When push comes to shove, those "weak" teams in the North will look a lot more difficult come playoff time.
I'm not overly confident the Leafs will make it much further if they don't add some... well, truculence.
Getting out of the first round is not a foregone conclusion. |

doesn't have like 5.25M cap hit?
how will the Leafs fit him in?
and Nylander isn't being traded. - dmnted
Definitely not in-season unless the Leafs some how completely fall apart and get desperate (very, very unlikely).
The off-season? All bets are off. |

Quite a few people were in favor of adding Josh Anderson.
And yes, the Nylander lovers said Huberdeau was not as good -- but people who watch hockey outside of the Leafs always knew that isn't the case at all. - MaximusAurelius
Huberdeau is maybe the most underrated player in the league right now but, to be fair, I can understand why some may have had Nylander rated higher in their first few seasons.
Anderson is currently shooting at an unsustainable rate of 23.1% which is more than double his career average. The wheels are ready to fall off. |

Isles just waived Leo Komarov. 3 mil AAV this season and next season. I doubt any team will take that on.

Thornton, Vesey, Spezza, Simmonds, and Bogosian make 4.8 COMBINED this season.[Giving 4th liners 3 million per and term is insane. |

I'll give it to you anyway - nice one!
One would hope that the Leafs repeated 1st round exits would convert them into playoff hungry beasts.
Maybe this is the year? |
