It's about time the NHL starts to spec softer elbow and shoulder pads. And do what they have to do (take a substantial amount of players money in the form of fines) when they throw a careless chickenpoop elbow to a guy's head. Control your stick at all times, add elbows and shoulders to that. |

Mr. Unicorn Mohel
I concede your earlier point about hockey being very dangerous in and of itself. What's going on with Shaw is a prime example of why.
Of course the deaths from flu are important, and I do believe that the courtesy of wearing a mask when you are sick (like they do in Asia) should be a habit that carries forward after the pandemic.
I do not concede equating the current strains of the flu with COVID. The flu is not as deadly and only about 50% of adults get vaccinated each year. The flu does not seem to have these types of inexplicable and incurable long-term effects for the people who contract it and don't die from it.

There are stories everywhere now about formerly very healthy people who contracted COVID, maybe even asymptomatically, who now have lingering, debilitating symptoms.
In fact, there is a 19-yo MN Wild player who is back home in Europe, unable to play because of the lingering effects of COVID:

Boqvist is supposedly going to need days to get back in shape after going through it. In contrast, many players get and spread the flu every year. Usually, they are either playing through it or back on the ice within a day or two.
You can call it fear porn, but there are many reasons to be concerned about potential long-term fallout from this disease about which we still know relatively little. - pdx2ord

I can't believe Edzo was going on and on about the hit to Hagel not being a penalty. The guy elbowed him right in the face. I get that sometimes momentum of a hit causes your arms to come up and there is contact but ffs, he led with the elbow.
Hagel didn't turn. He was reaching for the puck. |

Well, I view it differently than do you. But I respect your opinion and the way you express it. Peace, and good health. Go Hawks!

Totally agree. Stiffer penalties, including to the team, would correct much of it. It is why I don't believe the "we care about player safety" garbage. If they did, this would have been cleaned up awhile ago. |

Shaw needs to retire not even a huge hit. He started off the year strong but I think he's played really soft lately. Last two games he played like it was womens hockey passing up hit after hit and then he gets caught by an elbow. Need Reese johnson in. |

I saw the same thing, Hagel was getting past him and that's when the wings come out. Head blow should be the same as high sticking, don't care if it's inadvertent or not. |

Perhaps, if they feel that they will be good in the next year or two. But what if he gets a Hartman type return? I'd trade him for that, but the guy looks like a real hockey player to me. |

I'd think somewhere around 10-11 mil over 3 years would be fair. If he's a 20/20 middle 6 type of guy(which I think he is, and can continue to be). |

I keep seeing "trade him for future assets" type of suggestions. IMO he IS that asset. He's not exactly old, not even close. He could be a very valuable middle 6 winger over the next 3-4 seasons(our contending window with 88 still being elite). We have plenty of top tier forward talent and plenty of 4th liners, we need those secondary type of scoring pieces(we were sorely lacking a true 3rd line in last years bubble playoffs). |

I could see Janmark/Suter-Kurashev-Hagel being a very formidable 3rd line over the next few years. Interesting to see what happens at the 3C position if Toews comes back(Does Strome get bumped down and cause a chain reaction of repositioning?). Good problems to have. Too much talent is always a good thing. Competition for the top 9. |

C’mon, the wimp can’t play through a little bump on the head. In my day you shook it off and continued to play. Players these days are so soft! |

Beaudin is officially in the doghouse. Ugly turnover leads to a SH goal. Lets see how he responds with his play. |
