How is Janko doing?
- DuranDuran

Playing fourth line center. Not really getting much ice time. He had two good games to start the year but has been mostly invisible since.

JR had to waste no time grabbing him. Too many other teams were after him... not.

A win is a win I guess. Hextall has his work cut out for him.

Personally I hope they struggle for every win. But still get them. If they played good nothing will change.

I personally still think this team is way to soft currently the way it stands. Chayka is a complete fucckkin goof and always will be like I said from day 1 so I’m not going into that anymore to many people on here have argued for him and go ahead. He’s a tit.

I still will admit I said Dubas would get fired before he won anything in this league but he has learned 100%. I hope Hextall does what he’s figured out after 3-4 years now. You need a couple of the simmonds, Thornton, bogo, muzzin, Brodie types over the sheary, Simon, ennis, rod types. I love how trots ain’t scared for 3 straight seasons to play his 4th line against our 1st with quite decent success.

IMO Hextall's first order of business should be to trade Pettersson for a forward. Ideally an expiring contract to give us flexibility.

I have a feeling Hextall is going to sit back for a while and watch how things progress... both in terms of trades and a coaching change.

It was interesting to hear a recent Burke interview. He thinks people unfairly think his style is big and tough fighters when he described it as a big team that can still skate/play the game. Cited the last Cup winners as being big and physical but could still play. We are no where near that and cant imagine we would be able to do that change quickly.

I've been begging for the Pens to get a little bigger for a few years now. Not stiffs. Guys that can still play.

Anyway.... We've got 4 games with the Caps in the next two weeks. How many players do we lose this time around?

#29 will be a Pen again

I hope so

I’m torn as I root for him to do well for Vegas. They might want to keep him or the price will go up. He’s killing it so far this year

Catching a late replay. I wonder how many heads exploded when ZAR scored off a dump in.

Would you want them spending assets to truly go for it? Like our 2nd this year and our 1st next year? And Poulin / Legare?

I think the Pens are in no-man's land right now. Not good enough to be a true Cup contender (IMO) and not bad enough to justify blowing it up (at least to the fans and maybe ownership).

I figured this was the approach they would take and I'll hope for the best but I just don't see us competing (I think we'll be lucky to even make the playoffs as it stands right now).

- Hockey66

No, I wouldn't be pushing big chips in without substantial improvement. A couple smart affordable moves. They just hired a GM known for not trading his prospects and he's already said the Pens need to improve there, so don't expect them to trade the few they have.

I'm a tit man. Just saying.

Around here calling something tits is a good thing. Though we don't use that expression for people.

Ok, we'll see what happens. I have my doubts we see substantial improvement without big chips being moved. Currently sitting on 1 regulation win in 12 games and the worst goal differential in the division. I think the team's stance might change come the trade deadline on April 12.

Likewise. We're even struggling to compete during the regular season now. Playoffs (if we make it) gonna be worse, just like the last 3 years. Big guys that can play are a premium, but the Pens placed more value on other stuff. Now we have a whole team of other stuff that gets pushed around with ease.

Watch what happens on the WBS team. That will give us all the clues we need to find where the eventual moves will be made. As I said on the last blog I look for the defense to get more physical. When that happens, the next step will be to trade an NHL d-man for an NHL forward. Promote your physical defenseman. You basically get a two for one move.

I don't have a crystal ball. I am just giving my thoughts and how I would approach things. I would be the most surprised person on here if Hextall/Burke come in and make a big splash.

I can't think of a physical defenseman in WBS. I don't really expect any defensemen from there to help us this year. POJ was the one to watch. Maniscalco, Lee, and Reilly all are interesting but also all rookie pros so I'm not counting on them yet.

Not even at 1/4 way yet. More injuries than any other team so far plus a few brand new pieces figuring it out. Some hands need to chill with the hot take pre mature assessments given all the circumstances so far this season and pre season.
