Is it wrong for me to want someone who is better now, rather than “the next go-around”?

Clearly I’m not a believer in the grand plan.

Could be time for a coach change but pulling the trigger on Benning now ya can't see it. He has drafted so well with the new core maybe a few more drafts?

But people don't have the patience really. I get it. Nucker said 7 years for Benning could be enough and maybe he's right...hard to say. I would like to see Benning finish this off. Has to be more to the guy than losing Marky, Tanev, Stecher Toffoli and Leivo lol

You know...Burkie drafted the Sedins, Bieksa, Kesler, Hansen, signed Burrows, made some huge trades for the franchise....he got canned and someone else took over.

It’s the nature of the business. Very few guys get to finish what they started.

Just my opinion, but, he was full of himself when Aquilini canned Linden. He’s empire building. He’s going to die with his decisions though. He learned a lot coming here being the guy. And it wasn’t always pleasant.

Having never been a GM in charge I don’t think he had enough experience when he arrived. Now, he has to live with his mistakes, I’m just not sure Aquilini will.

- Pacificgem

Somewhat agree here but what are the options? Fire him now in the midst of a even shorter 48 game season possibly? There are options for a coaching change which I feel could be the right one. Team has talent...just need to motivated properly and buy into a defensive structure...fu*ck man it's not that hard you and I played serious Hockey we could coach this team FFS...

I think he has learned from his mistakes and that is why I think he should be given the chance. This offseason almost everyone here here said don't sign this guy or that guy. He did everything that people here requested.

He kept away from free agency and locking long term cap contracts.

Calgary Toronto and Montreal all spent to the cap and wheeled and dealed this year and only one will walk out of this division. They went all in and will be cap strapped next year.

Good points of course and Gillis rounded it out with additions for 2010-2011. Just not sure the GM change is the right move until the off season where we know exactly where the club is. Too many predictions right now and some will be accurate and some away off.

Benning is signed to 2022. I don't know if Aquilini wants to pay two salaries when the league is bleeding money.

If it was just losing Marky, Tanev, Stech, Toffoli & Leivo (who were offset by Hamonic, Schmidt, Holtby and a big bet on Demko <—that one I liked), I’d still (in the 7th year of GMJB) be OK with patience. It’s just that they are merely the latest set of moves that look to be sideways at best. And we have a team playing like poop.

Anyway, FA’s call on whether JB stays, not mine, and it’s perfectly OK to have different opinions of what we’d like to see.

Maybe if you had a Goalie screaming at you what to do. Otherwise, no.

Ah I see, so because I don't post Gillis this, Gillis that, I have a Benning sticker. I'm not mistaking anything with your posts, you have put Gillis name out several times, several.
How do you know for certainty that no other GM will take the job, pure speculation driven by fans like you.
Benning needs to go, Green and company need to go, but they still have those positions and until they are vacant no one knows who has interest in the job.
Gillis is in the past, get over it....MTA....busted....system....no....practice.

Are you and NuckUp the same guy, I mean you make more sense, but there are similarities between you two.

- Sea21dog

Triggered much snowflake?

There's been multiple reports through the years that talk about how none of the experienced gms would take the job and in fact turned FA down when he was shopping for a Gillis replacement. All over the radio and various threads last week, keep up.

Your drivel appears to be of the same derivative as N4U would post, are you, in fact, his long list alt?

You've inspired me, thank you for that, without triggering anyone, posting about Gillis was losing its luster.

Gillis > Benning
Get over it, you Benning Boy's days are numbered due to his ineptitude.

I asked you to post your solution, you have none, well said....

Serious note, with covid, shortened season, etc.... FA unwillingness to pay for a vacant gm, what's your solution? Keep Benning and pay he changes his stripes and doesn't bury the team further? Let him make trades and extend/ sign more overpriced players? Good plan dude.

Bringing in a short term president, who's already familiar with the market, to oversee him whilst familiarizing themselves is a solution, maybe not the best but it's still better then letting your bro continue to decimate the team.

There is, Roussel, Beagle, Erikson, Sven, Willie D, Malhotra, Gilman, Linden, all these players and executives leaving or being signed are combined damning to his legacy. Letting those players(Toffoli) all walk was the effect, the bad contracts and poor cap management are the cause.

A few more drafts is three more seasons, I don't think so.
We need a president, to bad burk is gone, that would have been fun.

Goes back to Gilmour, Fluery, Niewendyk, Otto etc and the epic battles with the prima Donna Oilers.
Unfortunately I couldn't cheer for the Canucks, back then, because they weren't playing.
