I’d like to start sooner than three years from now

I’d be tempted to just bite the bullet on Myers and pay the hefty price it takes to dump him on someone. The rest of the bad contracts all expire during the next two summers.

Canucks will be right up against the cap after QH and EP’s raises plus Demko will get a boost too. And they have to replace or re-sign Edler. Need a 3C pretty badly as well.

Benning or the new GM will have his work cut out for him.

That Myers contract looks brutal right now, once Loui’s gone, the attention will turn onto him. He’s gonna be the guy who misses Loui and Sutter the most once the fans turn on him.

Don't worry Nucker, others, like myself will be turning our attention to the bad deal that Schmidt was/is.
At least Myers didn't cost a 3rd round pick.
The rest of your comment i agree with.

Was Tanev the leader in the locker room or was he a friend whose house they could hang out and snort coke? Big difference.

I have never heard of Tanev being the voice in the locker room but I have seen pictures of Petey sleeping on his couch.

There have been stories floated around on here about the coke use and the speculation of Petey and Tanev using it.

I have hung out w Tanev a few times. He is a (frank)ing mute

There definitely some hilarious irony to Benning overpaying for role player “character guys” and then not being able to afford to retain one of the most liked players in the locker room who was actually a core player to boot.

Again, I don’t think the Tanev and Marky deals were great contracts considering term and age but I’d much rather take the gamble on them being able to age well instead of hoping that these old stale bottom 6 players age well.

I think a good chunk of Benning critics were against signing any of those Markstrom, Tanev, Sutter, Myers, Beagle contracts.

Coke is more common than you’d think in the NHL. I know a couple of mutual friends of current NHL players (Not Canucks, but local guys), and the fun stories I’ve heard usually involve coke lol and it’s not just the players you’d suspect.

I know it is common but because a bunch of them hang out together and do coke doesn't make the guy who owns the home a team leader.

Fair, I think over time Schmidt will show himself to be the better dman, especially for the next coach assuming it’s not another WD/TG. He’s a terrible fit for TG’s passive defensive system

Green/Baumer don’t seem to grasp that giving up the blueline and just backing up into your own zone is not how you win hockey games. Vegas always stands up at the blueline and pressures the puck all over the ice. The Canucks just collapse and pray that the goalie bails them out.

Maybe not a leader but clearly a guy who was really well liked in the locker room. If it was just about coke than guys like Shane O’Brian and Zack Kassian would be considered amazing teammates.

Yeah, I think Tanev walking hurts the core players the most.

Feelings aside, when core guys like JTM are watch JB spend millions and millions on bench warmers/dead weight and not willing to cough up an additional $400k and one or two extra years for a guy like Tanev then there will be anger towards management.

If that’s the case, as a fan, you hope that the coach and team captain can help turn that frustration and anger into something positive.

Funny how when rumours help substantiate opinion, they are valid. When they go against an opinion they come from armchair GM's who live in their parents basement.

Apparently, that's what happened in San Jose when they let Pavelski walk.

?

So wait, I made a suggestion that he may have been a “glue guy” that the players didn’t like seeing let go and it might be affecting their play. Hughes basically indicated that in an interview. You twisted that into me calling him a leader. Nice job.

Then you turn around and call him a coke head based on childish gossip. Again, nice job.

True. Oilers won 5 cups on coke lol.

Johnny/Monny and a bunch in the Flames dressing room have been linked to it as well.

I was at a concert in Calgary years ago when McCarty was there and in the bathroom of the concert venue there he was with a few more of the Flames (can't remember who) snorting coke off the counter like you said it's more common than folks think.

There’s different types of leaders, not all of them are just vocal guys. Apparently Tanev goes out of his way to make the young guys feel welcome on the team and probably why he was called the “dad” of the locker room. His actions probably spoke louder than words.

The Flames also apparently don’t have the best locker room chemistry so I’m guessing that’s a key reason why they were interested in signing Tanev.

I don't think the system fits Green or Schmidts or Edler style of game. All 3, I believe are decent enough defenseman, just none of them should be paid 6 million that they are making right now.
