Not sure about giving up Dermott for something we could probably replace from within. Regardless of some people’s eye test Dermott’s stats aren’t too bad. - Garnie
Not sure if there's anyone in our system who brings what Bennett brings: size, truculence, and some experience.
Having said that, Dermott is pretty clearly behind Sandin and Lehtonen at this point. Why not trade him for a guy who could push Vesey, Petan, or Soup out of the lineup?
I think they are back on the 15th but not 100% sure.
STL might be back on the 11th.
thing are fluid
edit: Found this
The New Jersey Devils won't play again until at least Tuesday, the Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild are off until Thursday, while the Colorado Avalanche won't see action again until Feb. 14. The Vegas Golden Knights had four games postponed before returning to the ice Friday.

I agree.
He is also a guy that can challenge Kerfoot for 3C...We have 0 players that can do that right now.

That's why I would take some time to move him. He's still an RFA. Leafs in control here. And yes, he's behind Sandin as well, who I think is going to a top 4 D the minute he adds some beef to that frame. But Travis is an assett. And a heck of a lot better D than what I see on some teams lately.

Theres only a month left before he becomes Kraken bait and loses all his value.

Obviously by the coach he’s not clearly behind either guy?
I don’t know much about Bennet and I’m
Too lazy to go look at stats right now.
Anybody why Kuznetsov and Samsonov aren't back with the Caps? - AdamFrench
Both Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilya Samsonov are still in COVID protocal according to Washington coach Peter Laviolette.
That's 18 days and counting for both players although Laviolette stated that both are starting to work out again. But they have yet to skate so don't look for them to be in action before next weekend.

Well, after last night's game I can't imagine how Lehtonen isn't obviously ahead of Dermott right now.
Dermott has 0 points and has been largely invisible playing very safe minutes (not promising).
Lehtonen has been on the power play and has 3 pts in his 5 games and has been noticeably involved in plays whilst playing safe minutes (something he should be doing).
Sandin is ahead of Dermott in the long term because he's 20 years old and has a lot of potential to grow. The potential on Dermott's growth is pretty much nil.
Sandin likely hasn't seen any action because of cap and waiver reasons.
Per Bennett, it's Sunday - opening another browser tab and checking out Bennett's fancy stats with a beer in hand sounds about as exciting as it gets. Which is to say, I'm very, very bored.

Not that Dermott is a prize but Leafs need more not less depth at Defense IMO. I don't want to see Marincin again. There are other spare parts to trade for Bennett. He's not worth much - has never produced at the NHL level. The Nucks and Flames fans are fantasizing about the huge returns for Bennett and Virtanen. Leafs have several players earning below $1M that are superior to these busts. Let someone else overpay.

I think Boyd, Spezza, ect are also benefiting from being on a really good team.
We see this happen a lot, especially TB over the years. They make depth players seem better than they are.
I do wonder Bennetts potential on this team, and I do value his ability to play C as there are 0 options after Kerfoot for 3c.

I think you mis-defined potential. Sandin having the potential to grow doesn’t put him ahead of Dermott.
