Why isn't anyone talking about the Habs loss to the Senaturds?
- bobbyisno1

Because the only two wins the Sens had were against the top-2 teams in the Division.

The funny thing is that the entire fire department came in waiving their magic sniffer and it read 6 parts per million, now I have no idea if thats bad or not so I ask them.
They say well it's not good.
So I do a google search and it's telling me any house with a natural gas stove will register 5 parts per million.
how the frank doesn't the fire department know that?

- Scabeh

not the Weber one but should've been 2 minutes or less.

Ray was saying last night that the cross checks aren't been called to much but if your stick just happen to touch the opponents glove then you get 2 minutes or less.

Hughes is amazing offensively.

But he's terrible in his own zone.

Erik Karlsson, who many considered not that great defensively, was WAY better than him.

Way better 😮

Ironic.

Someone points out Freddie let in one soft goal and a bunch of people on here lose their poop and label them Freddie haters.

Guess there's two sides to that coin. 🤷🏻‍♂️

and sometimes it's the same side on both sides.

yup it's a love hate relation with the Leafs.

It's amazing how much work he continued to do in his late years.

IMDB has him with 217 acting credits (TV and film).

The first one in 1953.

Doesn't seem to matter here, it feels a bit like fight club.

You are not allowed to talk about anything goal given up not being 100% the goaltenders fault.

You are not allowed have any rationale discussion about any goals being influenced or the result of anything other than the fact Freddy sucks, is overpaid at 5M for what he is and we need to get rid of him asap to bring in a new savior.

You are not allowed to question if the Leafs D is indeed vastly improved this year to the point where they are blameless on any goal scored against the Leafs.

Chat it with me - it's 100% the goalies fault 100% of the time.

I can't wait for the next Leafs goalie to come in just to see how long it takes before the torches are lit, & the pitchforks handed out.

- Cush29

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for here. With regards to the goals scored yesterday, I don't think they were Andersen's fault. I do think he could have played them all better and maybe would have come out with a save on one of the plays. I think some may pick and choose here and there, but Freddie has been . . . good when he's good and inconsistent otherwise.

As a goalie, you know that there are games when you're on, and you can cheat on your game a bit because you're dialed in. You're also aware when you're not, and you need to cheat on the other side of that edge - so you play safe, you play big, you play fundamentals and not necessarily as much on the specifics of the play.

I don't see Andersen playing like a guy who's dialed in - although he was very good against Winnipeg, Calgary, and in most of the games against Edmonton. What I see more often than not from him is a guy who doesn't have his swagger back, but is generally looking better. While he regains his swagger, I would like to see his fundamental habits improved (i.e., the most recent discussed example is having his upper core elevated on the cross-crease slide) to maximize his chances of making those saves. Pitching forward and getting lower brings you closer to the puck, which lets you cut down the angle of elevation, but gives you less time to read and react and less room to move; it also increases the available net.

I'll be honest, I don't blame him for any of the goals against last night...During a game, you won't always be in the right position, but with that said, he does need to be more consistent in goal for us to advance in the playoffs.

I think he is a good goalie that has consistency issues.. If he can find his form again, that would be great.. We need that

- PatC80

I agree he needs to be more consistent and has struggled at times and I think the way the Leaf team is built (the way many have been built) is part of the problem here. You build a team to be hugely offensive at the expense of defense and goal tending to some degree and you get what you have now. Freddy is middle of the pack- sometimes he looks top tier, sometimes bottom but it probably averages out to middle and that is kind of what you get for 5M per year.

You hear people talk about the way to build a successful team is from the net out but the Leafs haven't done that since when? They have been a team for ages that not only wants but needs a level of goal tending that is nothing short of being upper echelon of the league to win.

Sadly they haven't had that type of a guy since Eddie the Eagle.

And as teams like Montreal have proven having one of the best goalies (at times undeniably the best) in the world doesn't mean a guarantee of success either.

Finding the sweet spot where you have the right mix of good scoring, D and goal tending at the level you need is so hard to do and in my opinion nobody has figured it out completely you need some luck involved usually in the form of some or several parts of your team over achieving. You need that guy who scores 4 all season to go on a tear in the playoffs and get 5 in 7 games or the goalie who was middle of the pack or a rookie to suddenly look unbeatable (look at Dallas last year).

I feel like the Leaf's are still too heavily invested in offense and need better Defensive D-men but also just haven't had that luck part happen for them with this group yet, they might never but I sure hope they do regardless of where it comes from and who it is - Freddy, Gibson, Campbell, Woll or someone else if we are talking goalies.

I'm not looking for anything to be honest, just rambling I suppose. I agree he has no swagger and is likely 'in his own head' as they say.

I wonder if he is a goalie who may not be able to do well with minimal shots against? Has a hard time staying in the game when he isn't that busy?

Cross crease slide with elevated core may help for sure, I was explaining what I thought he was doing (and at times failing at) & still think there is a time for a upright / elevated core slide across but also for the lower, SLIGHTLY forward bfly push across when necessary.

Available net the shooter sees is dependent of how far away they are from the net / how far away from the puck the goalie is but fundamentally the key is to get over, then out vs out and over at the same time whenever possible.

I'm with you. I am surprised by how poor their start has been. I just. . . .

Out

Markstrom
Tanev
Stecher
Leivo
Schaller (traded at TDL)

In

Holtby
Nate Schmidt
Hamonic
Juolevi
MacEwen

I mean. You look at that, and . . .we knew that Markstrom was playing a career last year, but how much was he actually covering for? It's weird, too, because the newer guys - guys like Schmidt, Joulevi, MacEwen and Hamonic - whatever their roles are - are actually performing adequately. It's the rest of the cast that was already there that's falling apart at the moment.
