It's strange. If I try and contextualize how I feel about yesterday's game: It's like analyzing a preseason game. You're looking for the good and the bad, but it felt almost like the result was inevitable at some point. The Canucks were barely there. For their part I truly hope they were simply fatigued from so many games, and 3 in 4 nights. They looked just terrible.

Because of the Canucks' poor level of engagement, it's sort of weird to assess that game, you know? Like all of us, I'm very happy we won, and I'm also very happy we padded the stats. It just didn't feel very fulfilling because it didn't feel like we even had to compete for the most part - Vancouver just conceded the ice in a lot of areas.

I mean they dominated and it wasn't even a competition.

VAN is a team they should win 70% of the time and I'll take a beat down.

With your Nylander hate it is obvious you fixate on your emotions from the past.

Leafs are a better defensive team so far.

4th in SA.

14th in scoring chances against.

Its the NHL, forward vs defence. Sometimes the forwards are going to beat the D and vice versa, its all about limiting those losses and the D has done a good job.

It is obvious.

- Santo_44

you know you have nothing when all you can say is that i hate Nylander..

95% of my posts about Willy have been positive this season, but don't let the truth get in the way of your story Santo.

Doesn't that mean they are not playing well ?
- bixll

No it means the D isnt playing well, while ignoring that the stats say the D is playing well.

It is impossible for goalies to play bad.

it could mean a lot of things..

one of them being they arent playing to their potential.

what matters is they're getting wins.. Bob, Carey, Freddy.. All getting wins.

I used it as an example where you take your past emotions and opinions and apply them to the present day.

You tell yourself the Leafs D is always bad because that is what you have been saying for the past years...you also get triggered when fans say Freddy is playing bad.

The proof is right in front of us, be happy about the Leafs improvements on the D side of the puck and hope Freddy turns around his poor play.

Freddy has to get it figured out, .888 will not win the Leafs a cup this year. The team can't cover that against the better teams.

This is my opinion, I am allowed to have my own..

The Habs are going to deflate any moment now..

Its the NHL, teams go through massive swings. A loss to Ottawa could set in a panic which could severely derail their confidence. It could happen to the Leafs too, but lets be honest, the Leafs are much deeper, and more equipped to deal with adversity than the Habs.

either way, sounds like a lot of work.

While that is true, Bob is an outlier of those three. He has let in many, many weak goals this season. Price and Freddy aren't.

Winning is what matters.. His % will even out. Leafs defensive will have good games, and bad games..

5 I think, even. So even more so.

Think Toffoli has 7 of his 8 goals against them?

Leafs defence has been better, but only marginally better.

They still struggle with defensive coverage in their own zone.

Great, we just solved the horrible goal differential problem that is ruining the Leaf’s season.

It’s like Indiana Jones and the Hunt for Bad Leaf News in here.

Leafs are playing well and not giving up many goals.

Spezza could be leading the league in scoring if the Leafs played them 5 times.

Yup, fix the smaller issues while they are small... Or wait until they are big issues. whatever.

If the (frank)in PP was running at 5% and we were winning, would it be any different?

No, we would be talking about the shiity PP.. FFS

I don't think their d will ever be a top 3 d in the NHL. They are limiting chances at an above average rate, and limiting overall l shots at an elite rate. We fixate when a D gets beat by a forward, but that happens every game to every team.

Overall the Leafs are losing d coverage no more than the top half of the league.

Hockey is a fickle sport..

The stat-egists hit the panic button too often because all they do is look at the stats sheet, and interpret it the only way they know how.
