Trading for an elite goaltender seems to always be a risky proposition, a team that considers themselves to be a contender would be foolish to roll the dice.

Option A should always be getting Fred back to where he was, splitting the starts more evenly when Campbell is more healthy for a stretch seems like a good idea. At the very least, Fred has never felt he's had to earn his job. Perhaps it's the kick he needs.

Worst case scenario you get a feel for whether you can live without Andersen, if he doesn't find his footing and Campbell succeeds perhaps you look to replace him with a 1A/1B type tender. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree with this partly - there is risk in making such a move. On the other hand Gibson is 27 years old and locked in for 6 years after this one at $6.4. This is not an unreasonable number and there is no guarantee that Freddie is signed for less than that at age 31

I thought all of the folks here had baked beans and pork fry on Saturday nights? And home home made brown bread to boot. Need the bread to swipe the pork grease from the plate. Where have you been?

There is also Ander5en's dire playoff history to consider.

Is this the guy you want manning the pipes* in the post-season?

* phrasing could use some work

5 of AM34's 8 goals are EV.

6 of MM's 6 goals are EV.

Is he elite. Him and Fred pretty much have the same save % - career - last 2 seasons.

We Leaf fans just like to run players out of town so they can win elsewhere.

Gibson is a good goalie and has better SV% and GAA. At 27 he's likely entering his prime years wheras Freddie - especially looking at this year and the last couple of playoffs has started to decline. On Save percentage - note that Gibson has been above .920 three of 6 seasons, while Freddie has never hit .920 in his career except in his rookie season when he only started 28 games.

He sucked last year ( worse then Fred ) same the year before and this year he’s had 1 good game.

I wouldn’t trade assets for him myself.

It's a balancing act. Leafs probably can't afford a 6.4 goalie anyway. I think they probably end up trading for a younger more affordable goalie in the summer.

On another note is it too soon to consider handing Simmonds and Bogosian 1 yr contracts for next year?

On another 'nuther note for all us cable people has the NHL blacked out all these non-local games to try to get us to buy NHL package? 1pm Habs-Sens game blacked out!

Leafs may need to look at moving Willie if they want to have an elite goalie and give Rielly a raise.

Trade Willy

*gasp*

Should have traded him for Hamilton long ago. ( if it was possible )

I think they'll do there best to re-up Hyman as well. If Hyman and Rielly are priorities then ya it almost has to be a choice between moving Willie out to create cap space for a well-paid 'tender OR moving some young pieces and picks for a young affordable 'tender.

Another cap space option could be trading or exposing a Muzzin or Brodie in the expansion draft to create space ...but then the D gets weaker again.

Wonder how much Hamilton is looking for this summer? Not sure he's in the budget.

Just watch the games, gluey.

That is the problem.

People ARE watching the games, and Andersen is below average starting goalie who poops the bed when it counts the most.

Stats have been posted many times, and they aren't obscure stats. His poor performance is a fact.

The arguments supporting him are the ones that have no statistical basis.

Some people on here actually blamed the Dman when Ander5en let in a goal from the redline in our own end... when the Leafs were down by 1, in a deciding game. That is the typical Andersen support around here.

He 'could' be elite, I wouldn't say we're gonna find out with the teams he's played for. It's a technicality anyways...

It doesn't matter what we say, Andersen's running himself out of town. He needs a new contract, and I highly doubt he wants to sign an extension for 3-4 million a year. Because that's what his numbers the last couple years are worth. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree ,they should get rid of Andersen now before they give him a raise next year . I don`t want to see him in the playoff for another season.

If Gibson is traded at best i think he gets a first round pick

Why would they ever trade Gibson. It makes no sense.

I dont think Andersen is getting a raise. Look at Lehners contract. He isnt getting more then him IMO.
