This is true, but I still wouldn't claim him. They have a ton of borderline NHL/AHL defenders (Cholowski, Lindstrom, Biega, Hickets, hell even Lashoff) already who could do the job just as well.

This lineup needs 100% more Djoos.

At least the writing seems to be on the wall for Nielsen. He's scratched while Hirose plays and Bertuzzi and Zadina are still out, which implies that they view him as like the 15th forward in a healthy lineup.

McIlrath just doesn't have NHL Defenseman speed. His skating has literally kept him out of the NHL. But I'd still play him over Staal.

My favourite part is when he squints at the ref on the way to the penalty box acting all shocked about getting a penalty call. Like open your God damn eyes Staal. It's 2 minutes for being washed up.
