I wanted him over Thornton to be honest. I think he choose the Habs over some other suitors. Obviously Dubas wasnt interested else he'd be a Leaf IMHO. - Archaic
Turns out the Habs were his childhood team.

Maybe he'll slow down and need to rest from time to time.
But he's been a stabilizing force on the third line with Kotkaniemi. I'm sure the young man is learning plenty from him. - Scabeh
I wanted him for the leafs 3rd line. He’s a piece of poop that the leafs needed in the lineup to stir crap up when they come out flat.
Plus he is still a decent player and would be useful on the pp. |

He stated a few years back he strongly considered playing for Toronto before he resigned with the ducks. He wouldve definitely gone to the Leafs if they asked IMO.

Habs haven't won in 27 + years and counting, but you would think they won a couple of years ago, the way their fans go on. - bixll
Seriously though, if Montreal wins the cup this year......
It will be hell for us

Every player from Ontario says the exact same thing.
I'm not saying he considered it or didn't consider it - just that all these guys get a microphone shoved in the face and asked if they would want to play for the Leafs. The answer is always the same:
"Toronto is a great place to play, and the fans are unbelievable. At the same time, I need to make decisions about..." |

Yup. Losing both players hurt them.
They still have an interesting offense. But their defense is full of holes.
I hadn't seen much of Quinn Hughes except for his stats. I was surprised how horrible he looks defensively.
Just look how easily Corey Perry (who's still amazing btw, despite not moving that fast) just goes around him:

There's no way Vancouver makes the playoffs. If they do, it's because Edmonton somehow turns into an even bigger tire fire or Winnipeg implodes. - Scabeh

They dont specifically call out they considered coming to Toronto as a UFA. They usually say "Yeah I have thought about it" ...it was different. He actually considered it as a free agent, and only due to the fact he wanted to remain with his current team did he not sign.
I just think had he had the opportunity, he would have taken it. |

Perry? Yeah, we waived him so he'd go to our Taxi Squad to begin the year, for cap reasons mostly.
I don't know if teams passed on him out of respect for his choice to play in Montreal or just because they didn't think they'd need him.
Either way, he's still here and he's here to stay.

Went for his favorite team as a kid instead.
