Ok, weird story from when my wife first met my parents. We had been together 6 months. They were living in California, north of LA in this cool town called Ojai. My dad had retired and they were kind of moving around and were there for a tear. They had a upish scale trailer home and my sister had a nice place.

We were living together and broke, both married before and she had a 6 year 9ld daughter. We had flown to LA where my nephew (the screenwriter from yesterday’s story) put us up an amazing hotel we’d never be able to afford.

We drive up to Ojai in a Rent a Wreck, meet my parents and within 10 minutes my wife (to be about 6 months later) shows my mum a picture of her daughter.

Now my mum was very kind of mystical, I guess you’d call it. She did the Ouiji Board which my younger brother pushed around to get his allowance increased, and special treats, etc. So soon as my mum sees this picture she says “Oh, that looks just like Anne.”

It turns out that my wife’s ex mother in law came from the same town in northern Alberta as my parents that my mum used to baby sit her and that she got pregnant and gave her baby up to be raised by her sister, my mum’s best friend. The mother in law moved away and nobody including the little girl and the son she had later who was my wife’s ex ever knew.

So on the few joint family situations, the ex mother in law, knowing who my family is and knowing what they know is always so (frank)ing nervous.

It was very weird that my mum just looked at that picture and saw a 40 year half sister connection.
