The Hornqvist trade is more because of what they got back then anything. Some people, and I'm one, also care about the net front, but to others that was never a big deal. But almost everyone was ok with Hornqvist leaving in a bubble.

The thing I don't buy with a year too late is that O think with only 2 years on his deal you could have found a way to send him to Seattle, particularly if he has a halfway decent year like he is, rather than take back a bad contract.

- Tojo.

I don't think it's that people don't value net-front presence. Hornqvist's age/contract was becoming an issue. I loved him as a player, but I felt parts of his game was hampering it was time to move on. The good parts he brought were IMO not worth his age/contract.

That said, I still valued parts of his game didn't want him moved unless it improved the team. So to your point, the trade itself was bad and ultimately hurt the team. While obviously there are other issues with the team, having Hornqvist right now would be a huge improvement over what they have.

He was a stubborn old man not getting his way and quit. That's ultimately what happened in my mind. I think obviously things built up to get to this point but in the end he said F this I'm out for not getting his way.

It's hard to argue with that. I pretty much feel the same way.

It was released shortly after I was born, but I also enjoy the classics. I definitely recommend.

I'm going to be totally honest here. I truly don't give a poop why JR quit and I couldn't care less if we never find out. I just want the Pens to hopefully replace him with someone who can fix certain mistakes and quickly make this team better.

So Sid is currently 3rd in the league at all situations giveaways and Malkin is 10th.

At 5 on 5 Sid is 18th and Geno is 7th.

Tanev is 2nd in the league at takeaways all situations and 5 on 5.

Why did I look into this today? I was curious about Letangs numbers because to my eyes he hasnt been where Id like him to be. I know he's generally towards the top of giveaways because of his risk taking, and I get that, but right now he's ranked 42nd with only 6 in all situations giveaways and only has one 5 on 5 giveaway. I was surprised by this.

I think the thing with Letang especially, and quite often geno, is how egregious the turnover is. Especially when Letang is the last man back. Sid I barely notice but I’d say thinking about it now, it’s him trying to thread the needle of an eye with a pass I to a tight area trying to cross the blue line, or passing into the slot.

Colin Dunlap on Twitter saying multiple sources have told him that JR had a trade in place for Letang to one of the teams he can be traded to. Ownership said not so fast, so JR basically said "fine, I'm out"

Baller move by JR lol. Ownership of every team needs to stay out of the player personnel decision making.

Chayka is available. Would be so “ progressive”.

Nah, his ass is suspended by the league until the end of 2021.

Or perhaps they had enough of his undoing what he did to make them successful in 2016 and 2017. Awful lot of misfires in trades since then and Mario wasnt watching the Pens all time leading scoring defenseman leave for whatever JR was about to get for him.

Alright? Still applies, and perhaps the same fate awaits JR. The league stated that there should be consequences for not honoring a contract. Bettman's words, not mine.

Imagine trading Horny for Matheson, signing sh!t Ceci, signing sh!t Yannik Weber and trading Letang away all within a few months...not to mention buying out your sh!t mistake in Jack Johnson which is eating up precious cap space even after he's gone. What a disgrace to the defense.

F all that.

I'm hearing the "campfire" rumor mill out of the Burgh that the Ownership wants to trade Letang and/or Geno and GMJR wanted to keep the core together. Blow up?

I’m with you. From a merit standpoint, Rutherford should have been fired after last year. Whatever happened behind the scenes just served to get to a point we should have already reached. We’re here so that’s good, hope we make a good hire.

I don't trust the stat counters. The one game where Jboyd showed the stat that Geno had one giveaway was off. However at the end of the year it'll all even out, but it's way too early to use those stats.

JR was the best GM in the Crosby era. I was never more frustrated with the team than I was when we lost to the rangers in 2014.

Anyone who wants to talk sh!t about JR should talk to one of the many fans out there who would trade any player in their history along with their left nut for a single cup. JR a brought us two back to back.

There is a very real possibility that the league never sees a back to back champion again.

JR is a legend.

In the grand scheme of life and the universe this doesn't even matter... But I care enough to discuss it because it involves the Pens, the team I've loved since I was 4, and doing so is entertainment.

Wrong, not when it comes to a situation like that. The owners rules buddy. They hired him they are his boss.

I watched Friedmen being interviewed live on Sportsnet last night about this. He took part in the video media conference with Moorehouse yesterday. He said that Moorehouse was very adamant about the Pens ownership still thinking they can win and wanting to be in a win now mode.

So I really think there's weight to JR trying to ship Letang.

Owners should be hands off though. Active owners have lead to some of the worst ran teams across all leagues. I do think it’s totally in bounds for ownership to veto trades of your best players, especially when the GM has not had a very good recent sample of player evaluation. Trading Malkin should be a non-starter. If Letang is to be traded, I don’t want Rutherford to be the one in charge of doing so. Knowing him, he’d go for Rasmus Ristolanen or Aaron Ekblad.

I don't mean stepping in on every move haha. I'm talking about with Letang and Geno.
