If it wasnt for a fresh 4 year contract signed last season and revenues being in the absolute sh!tter because of Covid, I'd say Sullivans days are really numbered...but because of those factors he could be around for a while yet.

Contracts don’t really matter. If Burkle and Mario think he should go he’ll go.

Sam Ventura?

I think that getting a young money puck guy would be real good stay ahead of the curve move by the Pens. The catch is that they have to be able to handle the relationships side of it and not be a (frank)ing chode like Chayka. That’s why Daryl Morey kicks ass. Best analytics based GM in the NBA and is also just a fundamentally cool dude that crushes the relationships side too. Is Sammy personable enough to pull it off? No clue.

Slightly odd that he uses the word “resigned” instead of “retired.”

Has a feel that there’s more to the story

its pretty messed up that "resigns" and "re-signs" are spelled so similar. I definitely thought GMJR re-upped for another 2 years or something when I first read it haha

I wish GMJR all the best.

Too bad there isn't a rule in the CBA that allows a team to buy out one bad contract that the former GM either made or traded for. Matheson may live up to his contract but it is a huge risk due to the length.

On this team, It's a good fit for the cap hit. He looks good. Scored the tying goal last night getting around the dman with his speed. Almost had a breakaway goal too. He's boosted every line he's been on.

I was disappointed that we traded him.

Just got off the phone with Jim Rutherford. He said "It's time to take it easy." His contract is up in June and he may retire then, or look to get back in the game with another team. "In the next 4 or 5 months, I'll decide whether I want to keep doing something or just retire."

^^ this reads to me like someone that was in a pickle (Donatelli situation) or just realized he can no longer make trades because there's nothing left to trade. Why else would he already be talking about getting back in the game with another team??

You expect the players to give their all every night and a team leader just quits with no reason given.

Pretty puss move

Jim Rutherford says decision is not health-related. But won't elaborate on why he stepped down.
"I don’t think it serves anybody well. I’ve been treated first-class here and I really appreciate and respect what they’ve done for me. That’s the way I want to leave the Penguins.’’

^^ honestly, this has an ominous feel to it. something happened.

Jj, guddy, ceci... Weber? Maybe he finally acquired all 4 horsemen of the defensive apocalypse so his work is done now.

He would have needed to aquire Kris Russel to complete the Rushmore of analytically hated defensemen.

This is such an US thing to do. Complain we want something, then complain when it happens.
