meh... unless the cost is extraordinarily cheap, I'd rather just ride out the injury bug. I think their few precious assets should go towards another scoring winger to be honest.

I could see Dunn making sense if it ended up as a net positive long term. But in reality Dunn will be just another guy like Joseph and Riikola who ride the pine in favor of lesser "veteran" D men.

Left Dmen ---> Dumo / Pettersson / Joseph / Matheson / Riikola. If Dunn was a locked-on top 4 d-man, it could open the door to trade Dumo or Pettersson for forward upgrades or cap relief...but he's not. Plus Matheson is untradeable. Dunn is a short term fix that causes a long term problem.

Short, condensed season in what is expected to be a tight race. If they wait it out, it hurts their chances at even making the playoffs.

They can sort this log jam out later if they had to. They'll just have a different asset to trade.

Yeah I actually now feel a bit guilty for ill speaking of the man a lot the past year. Hope he's ok as well.

Eh job related criticism is always fair game regardless of their personal situation. You can want someone out and still hope that they’re happy and healthy.

Good...this will forge the strong defensive tendencies and habits they need and will pay dividends towards the end of season and playoffs...

...or that's the best case scenario, anyway hahah

- MattStrat

I fell for that last year.

In the statement he made, he says "I know it's a little unusual to have this happen during a season, but just felt this was the right time to step away."

The guy is old, has a family, and might have been content to just walk away. Given the competitior he is, I find that hard to believe... but Im assuming this COVID stuff and the fact this team isnt going anywhere this year has something to do with it if it isnt health related.

Doesn't sound like he's sick.....at least from his statement.

Matheson is on the ice with a no contact jersey...

No Dumoulin or Marino at practice either.

"It has been a great honor to serve as general manager of the Penguins, and to hang two more Stanley Cup banners at PPG Paints Arena," Rutherford said. "I have so many people to thank, beginning with the owners, Ron Burkle and Mario Lemieux, and team president David Morehouse. There always has been so much support from everyone involved with the Penguins, both on the hockey and business staffs, and, of course, from a special group of players led by Sidney Crosby. The fans here have been tremendous to me and my family. I know it's a little unusual to have this happen during a season, but just felt this was the right time to step away."

Holy poop. Is he sick? That’s really the only explanation. I’m not upset he’s gone, clearly he lost it in 2018, but I hope he’s ok.
- Victoro311

How I feel as well. Turned bad recently, but take all the good and the bad together and he had a great run. Hope whatever he's going through is taken care of quickly and he enjoys a nice long retirement.

EDIT- ok caught up now Vic

Maybe with 5 of the starting 6 d-men out and very little assets left in the cupboard to help shore up the defense...he was like "F this I'm out" hahah ....

So is Shero available? If anyone can turn not much into good in a trade its him...

I highly doubt the interim is pulling the trigger on any trades any times soon...

If he's not sick, I wonder if this rash of injuries put him over the top. Seems so strange. Maybe he feels cursed or something.

Or maybe Mario saw what we all saw and had a Frank conversation with the Old Man about how much good he’s done for the organization but that it was time.

I'd bring Shero back as an interim. Let him show me some good trades and see where it goes.

Gotta admit, my first reaction was HELL NO.

Yeah I kinda said it jokingly. However, I do feel there are some moves needed to be made...so they need someone not afraid of it...and soon.

I think Shero has proven to be a bad commodity. No reason to bring him back

It isn't health related. For the best of both parties I think. Tenure was marred by extremes- both incredibly brilliant and totally detrimental. Time to move on. Thanks Jim! Best of luck going forward. Hopefully The Swedish Chief can put together a good run.
