No reason to panic. Flyers needed a game like this. Their record was a mirage. Still time to get them playing the right way but time is short. - StepfordSam

I really dont understand this team sometimes. We all know how good they are when they skate and play with intensity and then we get games like this where the team just seems like they are playing pickup.
Its never one player either. You cant look at the game tonight and say anyone played well. One positive is that they literally cant play any worse but it can be concerning when the team looks lethargic. |

That’s getting to be the problem. They’re going to need to make some bold moves at some point to get a top 4 d. |

Funny that the Feistiest player we had on the ice tonight has like 5 NHL games to his resume and smaller than everyone. |

Every single team in the league goes through stretches like this. Even the best ones. It happens.
My concerns, no matter how it’s classified in here (slow team or just playing slow), has been the glaring lack of tempo. They have simply been unable to keep up with their opponent outside of the 3rd period of game one.
Secondly, their defense is a tire fire. When Niskanen retired we knew it was trouble, but Fletcher had ample time to try and at least competently replace him. Braun and Gustafsson was a poor job in doing that.
Third, a lot of the issues are the same, with different coaches. Many many different coaches. Slow starts in games and slow starts in seasons. I’m not sure what the answer is now.
Lastly, at some point they need to be brave and go for it. They need to bring in bonafide star power if and when it becomes available. They have drafted a lot of really good young players, and I think Provy, TK, and Hart could be stars. But they need to be aggressive. This 2-3 years away thing every 2-3 years has left them in a perpetual state of mediocrity. Go out, trade some (frank)ing picks and prospects and get some (frank)ing players that can take this team over the (frank)ing top. |

I agree, way too soon to panic. They are a very soft 3-2-1 so they are still in good shape. They seem to have had real trouble with the aggressive defenses of the Bruins and Sabres. |

Can we play a good game for Christ’s sake. This team has not shown me anything all year to think we are going to make some noise. - ClaudeFather

Yeah I agree. But its also a process. We lost lindblom and patrick for a while and have to wait for them to find their game again. We were still in rebuild mode when fletcher took over and no one even knew hart would be be ready to take the reigns at such a young age. Our draft picks are still progressing, and who knows if any one of them will ever turn out to be anything. When you think about it, we basically just picked up Hayes for the most part. Our D is decimated and our one draft pick who is a hopeful cornerstone of this franchise just got hurt. |

No, the Lightning totally didnt get rolled by Columbus in 4 games in the 1st round of the playoffs in a year that they were the 1st seed (did they win the President's Trophy that year too?). |

Didn't they get swept in 4 games to Columbus in the first round after being the best team in hockey during the regular season? |

We are injured in all the wrong places. And our depth simply isn't there defensively. We run everything through our defense, everything. And fletcher in knowing that to not fix the noskanen loss seems to be more glaring than ever. I earlier thought it'd get better but I really would like to see an improvement to the defense made asap. The rest will come as we strengthen back then.
And for love of God can we shoot on offense ? Make the freaking defense turn. When they take the puck right away its crazy how fast they get back up ice. Meanwhile we become the team that has to turn and chase. |

Im not talking about a singular game. This has been just about every game this season where we have been completely outplayed, no shots, no forecheck, no chances, turnovers galore. That is not something that happens with the Lightning |

They just won the cup and are perennial cup contenders since the past 5 seasons. That series was an anamoly. They just got cocky. |

I said it before, I'd like to get patrick a longer stick, he just looks too hunched over, roving around out there. I dont get how he sees the ice in that position. But thats just me. |

Didnt exactly have ample time. What was available?
Pietrangelo chose Vegas
We are assuming NYI would have been willing to move Toews to a rivial. Even if so I would think the price would be higher for us.
We are assuming we were on Schmidts list of teams he was willing to go to
Fletcher was reported in in Brodie but lost out to TOR
I find it hard to believe Fletcher looked at the Niskanen loss and said we dont to need replace him.
I agree bad games do happen but this is the 2nd time in 4 games where the team has been caught lethargic and lacking energy. Plus pile on the obvious issues as well. They need to be better plain and simple and they have to look like they at least came to play a hockey game.
