entitlement.

all these young guys in the 4 major sports expect to be called up and play when they are ready. Same when they want to be extended.

I don't blame Torts at all, even though like Brian Sutter, he burns out his welcome on teams. You would think the player would put forth the effort with the understanding he plays hard so that the organization can maximize the return, and the organization moves quickly to deal him.

I understand it's a business but these professional athletes who female dog and moan and pout to get trades can all suck it.

All this ass hat is doing is putting on tape that hes a prima donna.

Don't they need to keep both Delia and Lankanin to protect one and to expose one for the expansion draft (Subban is not under contract next season)?
- LAHawk

All 3 goalies signed for next year and all eligible for the draft. Stan can trade or lose one via waivers, expose one and protect one. Doesn't mean Seattle will select any of them.

So easy to say that. Completely different story to live it. I guess that's why he's an analyst now instead of running a team.
- BetweenTheDots

I think it's reached that level.....

Columbus can hold him out, send him home, and wait for the right package. Player is doing more harm to himself than anything else.

hardest thing for the GM is that the entire league sees this so he needs to get multiple teams involved to get fair value back.

Then, the inner meatball in me, hopes the 1st time Columbus plays this guy somebody runs his ass into the 2nd balcony.

A playoff round in cbus. He's a fine two way player. I don't know that he's a guy that is good enough to make demands. 5 million for a 50pt player who pouts is meh. Johansen maybe a comparable. I don't know if there is a team desperate enough at this point to give up Seth Jones level talent for him but they shouldn't trade him just to trade him.

Maybe he doesn't like Ohio. Probably save a fair amount of money on real estate taxes and there not being a whole lot to do. Ohio has some big deer (though hunting season would conflict with the hockey season) and decent places to fish. Not a whole lot else going on if he's looking for trouble.

His coach is a hard ass and that could be part of it but he gets teams that shouldn't be into the playoffs into the playoffs.

At least the hawks don't have a similar problem at the moment though Duncan Keith looks pretty irritated out there.

Maybe Stan's plan is to keep all three goalies through this season then trade one to a team that doesn't have a signed goalie to expose. Could be a one on one trade or a throw- in in a bigger deal.

They need to give the team with the lowest point total the Bettman Cup (biggest loser). Hawks and Wings are playing 8 times this year to see who wins the Bettman Cup.

The only person Keith should be irritated with is himself for playing so far below he old standard. It's tough to watch when we don't have any vets playing at the level they once did.

I would like to see Lankinen play tonight. If he plays above average (above average for Hawk's goaltenders so far this year) he keeps the net. If he is average or below average it goes to Subban.

When I watch the Hawks I get the feeling that the veteran dmen are trying to do too much. They realize that the onus is on them and they are trying to play their position and their partner's position. If they just keep it simple and play solid d, I think the team results would be better.

I feel the forwards as a whole are playing a slightly better 200' game than last year or the year before. Of course that is not saying a whole lot.

Apparently, no changes to the lineup (although maybe Highmore for Hagel?).

Lankinen starting. Soderberg not slotting in just yet.

Good to hear:

Dylan Strome said Kirby Dach has been around the locker room a lot and talking to all the guys often.

For his 20th birthday yesterday, he had a "pep in his step." (Strome sold Dach short; he said it was his 19th.)

Colliton on Dach: "His attitude has been fantastic. He's even more determined to come back and be a difference-maker. He's been around."

This simply cannot be. The system sucks...

Connor Murphy said the Blackhawks don't need to make any defensive adjustments because "the times we’ve had lapses, it’s because we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing and there are breakdowns. I wouldn’t say we need to change anything."

The players learned from the master at it - owners who blackmail cities and states to build them multi-billion-dollar workplaces, threatening to move to Timbuktu if they don’t get them.

Talk about spoiled entitlement....

yeah I think we will see more and more frustration with veteran players and it goes back to really 2 simple choices for any of those players.

1. Either they get on board with it and mentor the younger guys so if they want to stick around (those who have NMCs or NTCs) its quicker

or

2. they get dealt and hawks get back picks and/or prospects and said veteran has a chance in the present to win a title

Only those players know if they have stomach it, and what I don't want to see is older guys female doging about it because once upon a time almost 20 years ago some of these guys were making a ton of mistakes as unproven NHL players. Im staring right at you #2

I can see why the vets are frustrated. They are extreme competitors who are driven to win. Hard to get that taste out of one's mouth, once you've tasted winning.

However, being frustrated AT THE HAWKS would be wrong. The Hawks are in this position largely because they traded the future for the present for years. This maximized the prime of those guys.

like jerry reinsdorf during his late 80s/early 90s hissy fit on moving to Tampa?

I am not saying owners aren't scott free, but when a player signs an agreement he honors it and gives it his all or else the team sits him and if possible (see nfl) ask back the signing bonuses. Exactly what Houston will do if Watson doesn't report.

100% and in case like Toews and Kane they also have major cap hits.....which neither took any sort of a friendly team deal, nor should they have, but that also can't be ignored.

can't stay on top forever.

Taking ownership of one's own mistakes instead of blaming others; what a novel concept. And quite the contrast with the dope in Columbus.

Wasn’t that the owner before Reinsdorf - Allen?

I agree on Dubois - as I said, he owes it to his teammates and (if you will) the fans to play hard every shift. I’m just pointing out that the general sports team owners are the biggest cry babies in the world.

Do you understand what a collective bargaining agreement is?
- mohel

Everyone tells me how players don't have a choice, Dubois not only signing the contract, he's playing like poop, looks like he has a choice to play like poop and he doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks. By signing the contract they can't keep him for anymore years and by playing like poop forces management's hands. If they offer sheet him after 2 years it'll have to be for $7 to me it looks like the ultimate (frank) you to the owners of the blue jackets.
