Cbj is a dumpster fire really. No one wants to play there and that’s the real problem - Hextall271
They have a really big 2 years now that gets even more suspect with this trade. People they have to re sign in the next 2 off seasons
Jones
Werenski
Laine
Both their goalies
The rest of their entire team minus 4 players. But they are a team that suddenly seems devoid of high end talent and probably need a rebuild. |

If only we had another top 10 pick who was at first "only a 3rd line center" who eventually grew up to an elite 2 way center and selke winner as an example of what Patrick could become. And I actually think Patrick has a better shot. - Tfaehner
If you are referring to Couturier he was never projected to be a 3rd line center, he was a scorer in the minors. It just took him a while, well more than while, before he learned to balance offense with defense. You're right though, maybe Patrick will take that long also and become another Couturier, which I wouldn't mind at all. I think you can win a cup with two Couturiers and a Hayes down the middle. However I still think you need an elite scorer in the lineup, a 40 goal guy who can score that PP goal or take over a game when you need it. The Flyers thus far lack this type of player in their system, and unless you draft high or luck into a trade, its not an easy thing to get.

No he wasn't projected to be a 3rd line center. But his offense didn't truly break out until his age 25 season. Patrick offense is already further a long than coots was. While coots was definitely better defensively. Patrick is also already better in the circle among other small things. He lost his age 21 season or he might have already progressed faster. But I expect by age 25 season nobody will have an issue with Patrick progression if he's healthy.
Elite scorer ? Like if only we had the guy leading the league in goals ? |

Oh come, we are 5 games into the season. You honestly think TK will be leading the league in goals? Look, I love TK but in a 56 game season, he will be lucky to get 25 goals. He is not an elite scorer and that is OK, because I love his game and his attitude, I hope he is a Flyer for life!

Laine is never going to stay there. - SuperSchennBros
I'm not so sure, Jarmo Kekäläinen is Finnish and might be able to get Laine to play for him.

Couturier was always a better offensive player than given credit for it. He always pretty much scored at a 2nd line center level. It was more about usage and linemates for him to raise his overall point totals.

Leading the league? No. But what is your "elite tier" Qualifiers. Hes top 20 in the league in all fancy stats for goals. And he has some the best 5 on 5 goals numbers in the NHL. With his pp1 time i would absolutely expect tk to break 20 more goals in 51 games. |

I would disagree that Patrick at this point is ahead of where Couturier was offensively at the same point. Very similar

Agree it’s close. Coots didn’t put up more than 40 points until his 7 th season. Like patty played first year after draft due to his advance d game. |

Stats wise id agree they are close. In ability / talent i see a little more offense in Patrick than I remember seeing in coots. And vice versa defensively. Overall I used coots for a very real reason though. I think under selling what Patrick can become is outrageous especially when we had this debate for 7 years with coots already. |

I keep reading ignorance on this board. Sean Couturier is an elite player in this league. He may not be considered an elite score but he is an elite player. |

Did they ? All fancy stats, expected wins, and analysts seem to point to the opposite. Traded one guy who wasn't playing for the team and a long disgruntled scoring winger who dogs it defensively for a young budding elite 2 way center. |

How ugly does it get if laine walks ? No farm system. Not a whole lot of nhl talent. And you traded away another pick no columbus has no 2nd or 3rd rounder this year. Lol |

True. To me, he's an ugly skater. He's hunched over. Sort of like how Provorov use to skate. Must be a wheat kings thing.

Couturier was putting up those number while playing consistently against top lines. Not apples to apples.

Yea it’s really head scratching, how do you not get a signed player. Laine is UFa as well? Unless they flip Laine, idk. Couldn’t be too happy if you are a blue jackets fan. |
