Here is the thing in my view. Around the NHL, teams are struggling to find their way. Really we're in a "pre-season" where the game count. Teams are going to get better and get more cohesive. However we've already seen some of what you allude to . They have that horrendous game against Buffalo then come back with a better performance in the next game. Cohesiveness and team play are one thing. Lack of competitiveness and urgency are another. The start of the 3rd period in the Boston game was just a continuation of the first Buffalo game. Same issue. They had to know that Boston was going to push at the drop of the puck in the 3rd. They didn't match Boston's intensity. If they had, it might have been a regulation win.

I don’t like when they don’t compete but some of that is early season too, really it’s ups to the leaders to set the tempo and get everyone on board.

What is also true is having Braun when you have 5 D is really hard. He has not been the same since before the break last season. Hagg has also been noticeable, that is not good for him. Not did they not match intensity they had to overcome 5 D and pull 2 D along.

On the bright side Gus has been better and Sanheim is rising to the occasion

Still room for a lot of improvement. Loved our 2nd period and OT but not a fan of the 1st or 3rd periods.

You cant blow a 2-0 lead in just over 1 min. Team has to be better there and as much as it sounds like a broken record we need the team to shoot. Too many players trying to be too fancy.

Obviously without a bunch of regulars its positive that we are in the position we are. Ive heard rumours the Flyers are in on PLD. I would prefer we stay away. Im am not impressed with how he is handling his time in CBJ nor how he floats

I am not moving away from my position that the Flyers as currently constituted are not good enough to be serious contenders. I am not moving away from my position that the Flyers lack elite top-end talent. I am not moving away from my observation that they are a slow, sloppy, and at times stupid team. However, I try to be open-minded and see other perspectives, and I surely do agree with your perspectives about what you see as the problems. All I was pointing out in the previous post (and note I put a smiley on that) was that I was thankful you actually explained yourself versus just shooting down my opinion with insults like "the crazies are out" or stating "your wrong" without explaining how. And if/when things change you will get full credit from me, and I will be happy to give it you, because we want the same thing, for the Flyers to finally win!

I don't have any interest or need for any of those things from you. I already know what the Flyers issues are.

LOL. Someone whose views are often way off the mark, as yours are in my opinion, shouldn't be making comments like that. Nothing innocent about it. More like ignorance to me.

This is another misconception. When you have a situation where the team is being out shot, out chanced and the opposition is carrying the play with a bulk of the attack time in the Flyers zone, role playing defenseman like Haag and Braun will be exposed more. As the Flyers get better as a team, carry play more and have the puck more, players like Haag and Braun will look better. They are limited as players.

Yea, he's not handling it correctly at all. However he is still a talent. I think any GM would be negligent not to kick the tires.

Nah, Friedman is an AHL/slash NHL depth defenseman.
- MJL

With the skill set he has you don’t think the gift of size and the benefits, he wouldn’t be a 6 or 7? I disagree and think he would be able to handle matchups, separating people from the puck and not being separated from it. Interesting.

Not sure what skill set you're referring to? Is he a puck moving offensive defenseman? Is he a physical in zone defender? Penalty killer? I think he is a tweener that if any is not going to have a long NHL career. He doesn't have any particular skill set that would make him valuable as a role player and a 3rd pair defenseman. I don't see him ever playing as a top 4 NHL defenseman.

Laughton is a free agent.

He will be sign imo. Raffl may not be. If I’m Seattle I do similar to vegas. The prices I don’t think will be as high, but if the stock some d and or goalies they may be able to work some deals out. They will have the cap space to assist in relieving salary as well. Helpful in the flat cap era. I see people think jake may be the one. But fletch could throw a puck to clear jvr. We will know in the summer. Many possibilities.

Laughton doesn't have to sign until free agency. Which means he can't be picked. Flyers and Scotty could have a gentleman's agreement to sign once free agency starts to protect more people. If thats the case you only have jvr or jake left needing protection. You'll only leave one exposed. Sure, Seattle could go nak ghost or hagg but I think that's unlikely unless ghost has a big year.

Jake came off his best season defensively last year, wears an A and just hit 700 career points.

Jvr has been a 30 goal 50 point player for the better part of 5 years now on a 82 game average. His injury last year derailed him and he always has been streaky. However if he was making say 4 million we wouldn't even be discussing moving on from jvr.

Id be shocked to see Seattle having a ton of shots to grab players like that. Even with overpaid contracts. And I think you're going to see a lot more teams protect young potential over veterans this time around. The vegas model isn't going to work the same as far as results teams are wiser and better prepared for this expansion.

- Tfaehner

Correct about jvr. But 3 mil could go a long way right now. Would we be discussing moving Haag if he made 4 mil or letting him dangle in the expansion? It’s not correct but in a cap I think most people want certain production for the cap hit. If he hits 30 goals around 50-60 points. That’s what he was signed for.

Based on 82 games he would of hit that every year he has been here. And 3 goals in 5 games so far. Why would hagg make 4 million ? Fans hate him already at 1.6

I'm saying exactly what I said. Voracek was an elite offensive player last night. Pretty simple language to understand.

Voracek was downright surgical with his passing.

The misconception is how fans will single out role playing limited 3rd pair defenseman for their play when the team is not playing well overall as a team defensively. If a team is playing more in their own end than they should, that will expose those kinds of players. Pundits and analysts will look at those individual numbers and criticize them based on those numbers. Certain types of players such as Haag and to a lesser extent Braun are not going to look good in those situations. Ivan Provorov's numbers are god awful right now but he's playing against top competition in top minutes.

Any of the Patrick haters watch all the defensive plays he made last night. His d game is far advanced for his age. See coots at same age. His offense will blossom.
