You cannot be serious, can you? Do you actually watch the games, or just read the box score in the morning? This team is astonishingly slow, they are constantly behind the play and chasing the puck. The Bruins were skating circles around the Flyers for most of the game, until the OT where I will give you the Flyers had the better of the play. You yourself has correctly mentioned the poor puck possession numbers this year, why do you think that is? When you are constantly chasing the puck, you don't have the puck, hence low possession numbers. - jd250
They look slow because they constantly turnover the puck. Players in recovery mode always look slow. Poor coverage also makes you look slow. When they manage the puck right they do not look slow.

Right now the biggest issue with the players (other than injuries) is puck moving. The ripple effect that has on everything else can’t be overstated.
Leaves jake or jvr for your final spot. Anyone who says the contract will protect them is flat out wrong. A new franchise would love to grab either of these guys imo. - Tfaehner
Not in a million years. Voracek is streaky with lousy defensive play, and is only getting worse by the day. JvR is not a 7 mill player and is no spring chicken, especially as a net front forward.

You are confused by what the difference is in playing with a lack of urgency and competitiveness and actual team speed. The Flyers in the 3rd period didn't just come out ready to match the push that was going to come from the Bruins. Nothing to do with team speed.
The Flyers haven't had the puck as much because of a variety of reasons. Those being a lack of detail in their team game. Right now they lack a neutral zone presence allowing easy entries into their zone. They have not executed well structurally in Vigneault's overload puck pressure system. They also have been guilty of poor puck management and turnovers. Periods of poor competiveness. All leading to more zone attack time for the opposition
So yea I actually watch the game. The difference is I know what I'm looking at.
We were talking about Savard not PLD. Dubois doesn't fix any of our issues. Especially not after being benched for coasting through shifts with no compete. - Tfaehner
Nice to see my boy Giroux get on the board with a beauty snipe last night. Overall the team has yet to play up to their potential, they just need to stick with it while trying to get healthy and things will come our way.
Voracek played well last night, you could tell he took it upon himself to make a difference, and he did. The guy can be frustrating at times with his lack of defensive awareness but when he's motivated offensively he can make things happen.
Now Joe Thornton w/ broken ribs... wtf is going on? - Tomahawk
No one cares about Joe Thornton, go back to the Leaf thread you little puke...yes I know you're here all the time but I still can't stand your avatar or your Leafs Banner above it

It's not entirely because of foot speed.
Our slowest guy, Oskar, is always right on the puck. Whereas much faster players on the team are usually the ones chasing it around.
As MJL said, it's a teamwork thing.
The Flyers get constantly baited into committing turnovers. The puck is passed around like a hand grenade. Players fail to rotate, leaving huge swathes of open ice any time a defender goes out to challenge a puck carrier. There is a serious lack of puck support in all three zones. 50/50 battles are nowhere near 50/50 right now. Even FO's can't be taken for granted anymore.
Skating any faster won't mean anything if all the above remains suspect.

Jake came off his best season defensively last year, wears an A and just hit 700 career points.
Jvr has been a 30 goal 50 point player for the better part of 5 years now on a 82 game average. His injury last year derailed him and he always has been streaky. However if he was making say 4 million we wouldn't even be discussing moving on from jvr.
Id be shocked to see Seattle having a ton of shots to grab players like that. Even with overpaid contracts. And I think you're going to see a lot more teams protect young potential over veterans this time around. The vegas model isn't going to work the same as far as results teams are wiser and better prepared for this expansion.
Go home turd....the Leafs are the only original six team that's yet to win a Cup since the 1967 expansion, in fact, they've never even been to a Cup final since the 1967 expansion. They're also the only original six team without a 1000 point player in their history
Missing our top center and got a point, not to mention we’re currently in first place despite not exactly having our best game yet, things are not as bad as some would have you think. - Dave21Brown
I agree. Was thinking that today. First and 3 1 and 1. With the injuries and Having not played well yet

Ooh I love the how bad to the leafs stuck banter. Also, have never won 3 rounds of playoffs in one year, only team to go the entire cba 05- 12 without making the playoffs. Very few major award winners and on and on. Suck.

Thank you for explaining your reasoning ... before you insulted me :-) I agree with everything you stated here. I just sum it up as they are a slow team, that loses races to the puck and many puck battles. Now I don't mean to imply they have slow players, but just watching the game it just appears that the other team is skating circles around them, possibly because of the all the points you have raised here, and a few more. In the end I hope we can agree that right now, the Flyers are not playing good hockey and its frustrating to watch.
Any of the Patrick haters watch all the defensive plays he made last night. His d game is far advanced for his age. See coots at same age. His offense will blossom.

Ok, so lets break this down a little but more. "The Puck is passed around like a hand grenade", would you agree that this points to the players? "Players fail to rotate, leaving huge swatches of open ice", again this points to the players. "There is a serious lack of puck support in all 3 zones", here I have to put this on the coaching staff and some on the players. "50/50 battles are nowhere near 50/50", nice one! Would you agree this is also on the players?
So I'm not disagreeing with on any of these points, the players need to step it up if they are capable of doing so.
Yes I do. Contracts may not be great but they are good players. With a team who has to hit a cap floor and a lack of perceived scoring out there for them to take I think they'd love to grab either. And if it was Jake I'd expect a letter on his jersey too. - Tfaehner
I really hope you are right, because I think Fletcher would love nothing more than to get out from under Jake's contract. The same for JVR. I would rather spend $10M on an elite offensive player than what we are currently spending for these two.
