Well, you hit One of the nails on the head regarding this Flyers team, they lack top end talent. They have a team with a lot of 200 foot players, but they lack elite offensive talent. What's worse is they are paying Giroux, Jake and JVR 24M, which is 30% of their cap! At least Giroux's contract is up soon and they can resign him for much less money, but then they will give his current money to Couturier who surely deserves it. However with a flat cap for the next few years, no one is taking Jake, JVR and Ghost off our hands, and that will make it very hard to sign or trade for elite offensive talent.

Jake Voracek was an elite player last night offensively. Travis Konecny has been really good offensively this season and is among the league leaders in scoring so far in this short season. Couturier is one of the best centers in the NHL.

Laughton is a free agent.

Yes, but the expansion draft happens (July 23rd) before Free Agency begins (July 28th), so I believe if the Flyers want to resign him they have to protect him.

Yes if they resign him; would be wise to wait until after the draft to sign him if that is the route they take.

You are saying Jake V is on the same level as payers like McKinnon, Laine, Rantanen, Marchand, Stamkos, Kucherov, Draisaitl etc? I'm sorry but I don't agree with you on this one. Couturier is one of the best centers in the league, but he is not an elite offensive talent.

I'm saying exactly what I said. Voracek was an elite offensive player last night. Pretty simple language to understand.

Are you familiar with sample size and the role it plays in the numbers you've used?
- MJL

Sample size will not change those numbers for that game in any way. Knowing that, it was a crime to have Laughton out there with Giroux in the OT; when you have better options.

Come on, your playing with semantics now. Having a good offensive game, while also playing like crap in all other areas, does not make one an elite offensive talent. YOu know better.

I could be, I looked it up this morning but could not find nothing definitive. If you know more about this, please share.

If its the same as last expansion ufa are not eligible to be selected. As long as a team has the required amount of players exposed its a non issue. We do have enough signed contracts to expose as needed.

Laughton and Savard (ill keep speaking it into existence) would not have to be protected.

Leaves jake or jvr for your final spot. Anyone who says the contract will protect them is flat out wrong. A new franchise would love to grab either of these guys imo.

LOL. There's no semantics. It was a simple statement. It shows what Voracek is capable of. He's top 5 all time in the franchise in assists. Kevin Hayes is tied for the league lead in scoring. Konecny is one point off. Other players have had good offensive starts to the season. The Flyers are 5th in the league in goals per game at this point of the season. Your claims that the Flyers are a slow team and don't have enough offensive talent is nonsense. Those are not this teams issue currently.

Really depends who else is available by other teams. To me JVR would be the better choice due to contract term and money.; could then be moved more easily. I just don't see a team wanting Jake with his contract.

Unless you decide to re-sign Savard, he would be a rental. The question becomes does he elevate the team enough to be worth the cost of both the trade assets and cap assets moving forward if you decide to re-sign him.

I think hes worth it. Hes one the few that fit the expansion draft need (not needing to be protected or exposed), a current need (top 4 rhd and hes got some size which helps), a perceived future need (he would be valuable to our lineup for the next 2-3 years at least) and culturally from all reports would be a great addition.

That is a great question and observation. Do you think the GM and his staff ask that to themselves before making a deal?

The statement is correct. You just don't like it is all.

Do you think Laughton was the best option to put out with Giroux to start the OT?

If they have a team full of 200 foot players why are they so poor in their own? If they lack elite offensive talent why are they scoring so many goals? Seems to me that their problem is poor play in their own end. Too much running around chasing the puck. Too much stick swinging and not enough hitting. Poor decisions and players out of position when they do get the puck.

Doesn't matter what I think. What I think would be my opinion and not a fact. You insinuated that Vigneault is not a competent coach. That is not correct.

Probably a 2nd round pick with conditions. Either around how far we make it in playoffs or if he re signs. If we want them to take a contract back you're probably also looking at a non top prospect.
