Laine played on a pretty good offensive team, he had guys who could get him the puck, lets see who gets him the puck in Columbus. PLD had his best season with the bread man, have to see how he does also... seems like no one wants to play Columbus

That’s why I don’t get why you don’t trade for a guy with term, even if he was a somewhat lesser player.

Theres only two ways i look at this either columbus gm thinks his finnish connection can get him to stay. OR they wanted to move dubois quickly this was the best offer. Now they can spend a year facilitating offers for Laine where they can control where he goes ie nobody in the east.

Dollars also, I think Laine is a flashy name in hockey circles. Arguably your best player says I want out (punk), for a team like Columbus they really needed a name coming back for him.

On the D side a team that interest me as a trade partner would be the Preds. If they fall out of it they might trade. Just looked at that division, wow, just nowhere near the east division.

What one of those contracts are you looking to take on ? Aren't josi ellis signed til they're like 38? Ekholm might be the only option I see.

For a rental Arizona with 5 pending free agent d men is still probably the best trading partner.

I keep reading ignorance on this board. Sean Couturier is an elite player in this league. He may not be considered an elite score but he is an elite player.
- MJL

Agreed .. thank you for that clarification. I think Couturier has developed into a Bergeron type player, and that isn't bad at all!

Looking at Ekholm. Would be a deadline deal, if we were close to competing and they were out. I like AZ but I am thinking Ekholm is better. It could be I am just that disappointed in our D right now, patience.

Now for the record, I’m not calling out anyone. MJL was the most vocal about the arguments against Laine and for Couturier this morning. Believe it or not, I like and respect MJL, even if my comments can get out of game. What I’m saying is, I think we overrate our own guys and underrate others. If this team can get a superstar and put us on the map like Liberia did or Giroux in his prime, I want that guy. I don’t think Couturier or Konency are those guys but we’ll wait and see. I think Patrick has what it takes in time. I think our true stars in the making might be Carter Hart and Ivan Provorov IMO.

I like MJL also, he keeps me honest ...

Please Oh please Flyers win tonight, have a bounce back game! I get so much ribbing from these disgusting and grunt Bruins fans when the Bruins win (even if its a fake win in a shootout) its just unbearable. I hope the Flyers kill them by 5 tonight!

Ekholm would be a great fit for the Flyers, big guy, experienced, eats minutes, can put up offense and good on the PK. The problem is he will cost a lot, I'm talking 2 number 1 picks plus Frost would be the starting point.

Could be true, could also cost zamula if he is playing well in the A, Preds are close to rebuild time. While Ekholm is good he is 2 years away from a new contract, will he be part of the Preds future? My bet, is no

I don’t think you can truly build a team around either guy, with Laine or Couturier as the center focus. In my opinion Sean Couturier isn’t our best player. Top 3, sure but I’ll always be on that wave where Hart and Provorov are much more important.

I understand what you’re saying. 33 percent for each. When you look at the last twenty years minus the pens the teams that won multiple times all had a player like coots. Bergeron. Lipitor toews he’s not datsyuk but no one is. Each of those teams also had a great defender and good goaltending for your position.

So who do you expose during the expansion draft ? Given the price to get him and then the cost which will be one of sanheim/myers or a forward like tk lindblom. Ekholm is better. But hes also 30 going on 32 by end of contract and was underpaid on his current deal. What is he getting for his next contract ? Cost is 110% prohibitive. And I want no part of the preds other contracts.

Til I'm blue in the face David Savard is the perfect fit. And goligoski demers hjarlmsson would likely all work from Arizona crop.

The pending free agent/ rental market is really what we are resigned to. Unless you want to go super super big and go after an ELC player. Which would cost frost and multiple picks at least.

Scenario is, the Flyers are playing well, good enough they think they have a shot T the cup. Do the AZ D put them over the top? I agree cost and expansion but this scenario is of the Flyers think they got a good shot, short of that I hold and stay the course
