The problem is they can only allocate so much money to certain types of players. Leafs dont need another C, they need D. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Not sure they need D anymore actually

oh it was definitely all hypothetical. I don't see the Leafs going after Dubois or CBJ trading him here.. I do think he will end up somewhere like Ottawa, NJ or Detroit. A team that can afford the cap hit and has the picks/prospects that CBJ would want. - PatC80
ive been trying to think of the quality players missing, and i cant help but think of the trades that bos made in 2011 or tampa pick ups last year.
It so annoying to see some of the plugs the leafs have. If they do let go of a player like nylander, id hope theyd get a package of role players.
because the habs are on the tip of my tongue; The habs would love to have a matthews and marner type player, but the leafs could use a danault, petry and gallagher type. Id be looking for a trade with a team thats not in the mix for the playoffs, but would could use a star ( like nylander) and who have an abundance of role players that fill the gaps that might be willing to let go of.
Might find that in Arizona or Dallas if the rails fall off. |

If the Leafs weren't playing Tavares 11mil a year to play 2C then maybe another centerman would be good to have. - Arctic_AARDVARK

Nah, Leafs bounce back, 4-0 buds. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Obviously, Nylander will score 3 goals tonight..
My guess is they go 11D/7F again;
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Vesey-Kerfoot-Nylander
Mikheyev-Spezza-Simmonds
Barabanov-Brooks/Boyd

The second Leafs get Seth Jones the media would start the countdown to him leaving as a UFA in 2 years |

you realize dallas has 0 points because they haven't played any games yet, right?
and that dallas reached the SC finals last season, and Leafs didn't even make the playoffs, right?

As much as hockeybuzz has it warts, the peeps that come here and theorize on the NHL and hockey are pretty great. Its a vaste difference than seeing the homerism on the sport networks. I mean, TSN, CBC and SN had the leafs and nucks as the greatest teams ever made. But rational thinking people could see otherwise. nice.
As for this trade, no. seriously, the leafs dont need another star, they need depth and players that can fill the gaps or at least play with their superstars.
Adding PLD ( who would probably not ever want to play in TO) doesnt fix the soft neutral zone or defensive zone play. - munky123
I'm not entirely sold on PLD, but I would be sold on forwards who come back and properly help the D. Forwards who don't fly the zone before the puck is acquired, and forwards who can outmuscle the opposition and win a battle for the puck. In the offensive zone, Matthews is a magician with the stick and plucks pucks away, and Hyman grinds pucks away. After that there are a lot of 50/50 or 40/60 battles where the Leafs don't win the puck - which is why dumping and chasing isn't usually a part of their repertoire unless a slower team tries to clog the neutral zone - then it's a race and not a battle.
I'll grant that "being more difficult to play against" isn't typically solved by adding one 4th line guy and a bottom pairing D-guy who play physical, but it's better than doing nothing.
What makes a guy like PLD appealing in concept is the size and potential. |

If Nylander gets traded to Dallas for Hintz and Faksa, I will leave HB forever.. I wouldn't be able to deal with Max.

I find this argument so dumb. That's the past, Dallas got worse, they are old, full of COVID and have a ton of injuries to start the year, along with what is now the worst schedule out of all 31 teams.. They might well miss the playoffs. And this from someone who picked them to reach the finals last year.
How often to teams repeat trips to the finals in the NHL? |

Yea, my problem with it is that getting players like that, put alot of pressure on the system and on the team that isn't necessarily fair. It makes it tough to be unique or to change game style on the fly.
One common narrative that you hear about the leafs and the nucks (persay) is that they are PP killers. They destroy 4v5; while thats an awesome fact, when a game is low on the PP or a team is far more aggressive on the puck, then you get games like we saw vs edm the other day. that was one hell of an ugly/boring/broken game.
My comments dont come because the Habs are killing, but (frank), if we could see a leafs team that worked and skated and was accountable like the habs are, but had the 3 beasts in matthews, marner and JT, they would be all world.

I do think the Leafs can get those type of players without having to sacrifice Nylander. I think we need more Simmonds and Hyman types, we don't need a high priced player like Dubois

could be tricky, salary will be the issue. TBH, i dont hate muzzins game, but i dont like it either. i dont think hes all there upstaires. I wouldnt be sad to see him go. If the leafs could shore up the d wil good 2 ways puck movers, they might be able to make up for the gaps we see in the transition game and making for a better and more efficient quick strike offence. If the leafs dont become a force 5v5, they wont go far. |

We could use someone like Corey Perry, I know he's a winger and we have a lot of them, but he brings some depth and experience we could always use.. I think one of the biggest weaknesses is at C.. I like Spezza and Kerfoot, but they are not the prototypical 'shut down' guys.

well, “what a (frank)ing joke” became very popular a while ago when people were attacking other people’s opinions so it became a catchphrase for me👍
kind of like “where’s the beef”?👍🏿
“nice alliteration” speaks for itself👍
when mike or someone in the comments uses alliteration, i recognize it 👍🏿 |
