Pretty sure if I had a boss like Torts, I'd gtfo as well.

As someone who has suffered a couple of work burnouts in the past, there definitely comes a point where the money doesn't matter as much as your sanity anymore, no matter how much money you're talking about.

Sheldon Keefe confirms Auston Matthews it OUT tonight for #Leafs vs. Oilers. Upper body soreness. Day-to-day.

Joe Thornton has a rib fracture, will miss at least a month.

- Atomic Wedgie

Cue the blowout

TBH this is kind of scary though.

Matthews has looked really really really really good this year

Makar.

And no i didnt. NHL.com has Jones ranked 81st.

And he's 26, the same age as Rielly.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I was watching the Avs game yesterday (which they shockingly lost); at one point in the game at 5v5, they had Makar and Byram at the points with the Landeskog, MacKinnon and Rantanen line up front. It was the fastest game of keepaway I've seen for 2 minutes. The puck moved all over the o-zone - and Quick made some stellar saves in the midst of it. It was amazing that the Kings survived it and iced the puck.

Makar is great. I'm a points pool with 7F/3D; Makar was my first D selection.

I'd also include Hughes as a point producing defenseman.

When I was younger, I had a couple of jobs where I worked for complete franking arseholes.

I recognized it for what it was: I was given work opportunities that I probably would not have otherwise been offered, because the position was a revolving door as people quit or were fired.

And I was actually pretty good at working for arseholes - I always rationalized putting up with the poop to build my experience.

Now that I'm older?

Life is too short to work for arseholes.

the part of the conversation that is not being spelled out is this: PLD has 1 year left at $5m after this one.

Rielly has 1 year left at $5m after this one.

Hyman's deal @ $2.75m expires this year.

Nylander has 3 years left @ $6.9M after this year.

PLD is going to want in excess of $7m after next season. So is Rielly. Hyman is going to want probably $4m - $5m based on recent comparables. None of those are contracts Toronto can afford, especially since the cap is not likely to go up.

Saying that Clb would be interested, if you deal Nylander for PLD, you get $2m in 2021 and 2022 relief, but in 2023 you're probably back in the same problem or worse. Especially if you resigned Rielly.

I get what Pat is saying.

I'm not adverse to trading Willy for a player like PLD, but I'd be concerned about the coming cap ramifications.

As much as hockeybuzz has it warts, the peeps that come here and theorize on the NHL and hockey are pretty great. Its a vaste difference than seeing the homerism on the sport networks. I mean, TSN, CBC and SN had the leafs and nucks as the greatest teams ever made. But rational thinking people could see otherwise. nice.

As for this trade, no. seriously, the leafs dont need another star, they need depth and players that can fill the gaps or at least play with their superstars.

Adding PLD ( who would probably not ever want to play in TO) doesnt fix the soft neutral zone or defensive zone play.

I think he's going to win multiple Norris trophies, and soon. I took him with my second pick, 18th overall.

The avs are going to be unreal with that dcore.

Idk, but they'll probably have to put Marner with Tavares, and hope they find instant chemistry.

oh it was definitely all hypothetical. I don't see the Leafs going after Dubois or CBJ trading him here.. I do think he will end up somewhere like Ottawa, NJ or Detroit. A team that can afford the cap hit and has the picks/prospects that CBJ would want.

The problem Tortorella has is that he believes in public shaming as a method. It's a terrible tool to use in virtually any situation. It tears away trust and creates irreparable damage in a relationship.

It's also bad when you're in a market players don't want to be in to begin with,
