Hopefully IIHF will do the same for world championships and Podz will get a absolute free pass to Van May 1st............... For the playoffs.

A lot of #Canucks 'fans' on Twitter will look less than intelligent by next week when Petey & his crew come alive and win out the rest of the homestand. Thinking face

If you don't believe in the #Canucks young Core 5 then seriously WTF are you doing here?

56 games is still a marathon.

Some people just can't even.

I do believe in them. Just the last 5 games they have just seemed so unmotivated as a team to play hockey. They had a good offensive showing VS Montreal the first game, but still seemed to feel that playing defense/hustling back/Taking the man in front of the net was beneath them.

"Hey, Jim, we love what you've done with the team, we're just wanting to make some changes. We'd love to move you upstairs and have you focus on your strengths of drafting and developing our team from the President's position. We'll be bringing in a new GM to oversee the rest of the operations (trades, signing, coaching, etc.).

"We want to continue having you be part of our Canucks organization. We share a vision, and we want to share that vision with our new GM and yourself. If that works for you, great. If not, we understand."

Don't think it has to be "collaborative". If JB wants to stick on and help build this team on top of what he's done, great. If he wants all the say, then I think his time is nearing its end.

Benning, Weisbrod and several others need to be purged from the franchise and sent to Mars, not the booth upstairs

There's actually plenty of time to work out the kinks, if you will, in the teams play, however, the problem with that statement is they're playing the same way the played last year (bubble team). Now, some might say they had a good playoff run, but did they really, or was it very much a product of goaltending saving their asses on many occasions?

There's some great young pieces here but after seven years of Jim Benning the team needs a new face in charge, they need a different direction, a different culture. Here's what Dean Lombardi said to Mike Futa when they started to change the culture in within the Los Angeles Kings organization.

"Lombardi sat down with Futa, and they spoke about the formidable task at hand.

“I said, ‘Obviously the Kings have a lot of good players but when you have 50 years of not having a championship, you have a culture issue and that’s what we’re going to have to change,’” Lombardi said. “He said, ‘I get it.’"

i get what you're saying but what would his responsibilities be? is he just a draft guy who pitches his list for the gm to decide on? or does he direct the draft? what happens if the gm says we need to draft a rw but jb has the top 3 picks as dmen? who gets the final decision?

i just think it gets too messy unless the pres hires his own gm and even then it gets messy (hello TL.) does jb get to fire the gm?

but as a public relations face of the organization whose only duty is to look good and talk/schmooze the media, i'm all for JB moving to the presedential suite. there couldn't be a more apt face for an organization. #50yearsofbeauty

They still have a chance, its early, but its not like a normal season. Every loss this year gives points to teams they are chasing, so as much as its a marathon there is some sprint elements to it

read that yesterday. it seems the third wave in japan is much worse than the first 2.

it was looking like they could only hold it with strict measures (meaning extra cost) and no fans (no ticket revenue.) apparently the japanese government made the decision to cancel it a couple of days ago. they're expecting to get the 2032 olympics.

yeah but conversely a win streak is magnified as well.

i still think they'll be a bubble team this year (playoffs are still on the table - as obvious as that should be to all) but are going to take a "step back."

step back just means bubble team where some thought they were a playoff lock from here on out. this team's payroll is a mess and that's limited their options. not saying that this is the reason for the start to the season though. just the reason why i think they'll take a step back this season.

Brunt was just mainly talking about the people behind the scenes without talking about tickets and fans. He mentioned about broadcasting crews event planners judges maintenance security alone would require thousands of people.

You have to feel bad for Japan with the time and money invested.

Agreed. Win streaks and OT games will have different impacts, which is why I think there will be need to be some additional urgency in some games. I'd guess they need some ~55 points in their remaining 50 games to be in the hunt, but its not fun starting the season behind

just throwing it out there but... if we agree that wins/losses are magnified this season meaning that it almost feels like a sprint at times... does this mean that a coaching change is also magnified?

we've all seen teams go on runs when a new voice is brought in.

discuss.

that is why they have to (!) get 2032. there must be billions already spent. they can still reuse some of the infrastructure obviously but how about all the posters/signage/merchandise etc. just money down the drain.

we've said it many times in the past year but i'd never think something like this could happen. how sheltered i/we have been.

It seemed like there was a consensus here that a coaching change was needed. I thought we were going to close up HockeyBuzz for the weekend because we got our work here done early

I'll choose to disagree with the call on the ice. But I understand why it was made. From what I have read he got a match, as opposed to a game misconduct, so the league has to overturn the Refs decision for him not to be suspended.

well if consensus has been reached, what ever will we all do? i wonder if there are any other topics that might engage the buzzards?

If I had a vote I would wait it out a lot longer. Fans are having a huge laugh at the expense of everything falling apart to the start of the season. I turned off the game after two periods last night it was that hard to watch.

I have no doubt this is more than likely Greens last year but waiting longer when other teams fire their coaches gives you more of a selection instead of being focused on one unemployed coach that can't find a job.

The longer the bleeding goes it also gives me as a fan a longer look at players I would not get to see in a normal season like OJ Chatfield.

Petey and Hughes have been way below par and I want to see how they rebound. The plus side of their poor play is it has taken them out of the 9 mil per year contract talks and dropped them to 7 mil or lower if the poor play continues.

Lastly for me it will show or expose Benning. It is going to be a very big year next year and I want to see how he stickhandles out of his mistakes like Loui and the bottom 6 .

I’ve only seen the replay once, didn’t watch it live (turned off after one period) and don’t really care if he is suspended or not (apparently not), but if that hit had been on Boeser, or Pettersson or Hughes or any other Canuck besides Lui, this place would be on fire with outrage.

Canucks' 5v5 Two-way Numbers by Line

Elias Pettersson-3.37-37.0%
Bo Horvat-1.98-52.4%
Jay Beagle-2.63-47.7%
Adam Gaudette-3.67-38.2%

Bo Horvat’s line is pulling its weight, but it gets concerning very quickly after that. Beagle’s group has held its ground, but the Pettersson and Adam Gaudette lines are just hemorrhaging five-star scoring chances one after the other.

On the blue line, Quinn Hughes has displayed the type of defensive warts that we never really saw in his rookie season. He’s been unaware of the offensive threats around him, has consistently lost inside position in high danger areas and the team’s paid for it dearly. No Canuck defenceman has been on the ice for a higher rate of actual or expected goals against at 5-on-5, with Hughes posting a ghastly 36.8 percent expected goal share.

One would suspect there’s some collinearity between Pettersson and Hughes’ lacking two-way results given how much time they spend on the ice together, but it’s concerning nonetheless. Hughes has at least been an excellent offensive creator with six assists already, but he’s clearly not on his A-game either given his growing pains away from the puck.

-------------------------------------

Long read on the Athletic this morning, long story short, Pettersson and Gaudette lines are bleeding offensive chances like crazy. Losing Tanev hurting Hughes game a lot at this point!!
