so what you're saying is that the virus is spreading uncontrolled around the world, that no countries are able to stop it (except the ones that are islands and can stop people from coming in), but at the same time you're arguing that it's not a big deal..................yeah, your argument is really starting to fall apart man.

yeah canada is doing so much better
doesn't matter if the state is locked down or opened up, virus climbs at same rate per population

how are landlocked countries a good comparison to the US' tire fire handling of this pandemic....................unless you think the US is a landlocked country, in which case, you should probably go take your meds - sensarmy_11
Too many at the trough slurping the Orange Mans kool aid. It’ll all go away in April. Btw with year was that? |

i'm not living in fear. i live on the East Coast of Canada, we've had mandatory masks for months, everyone adheres to it, and we have only 12 active cases right now (every one of them is from someone traveling to other parts of the country, and every one of them is in isolation).
we put rules into place early, and followed them, which is why we don't need lockdowns now.
idiots in the US, and in other parts of Canada, didn't follow the guidelines, did wear masks, all gathered together, and now there are massive outbreaks.
and if you genuinely believe the numbers coming out of Florida with that DeSantis guy in charge, you're as naive as the guy who believes the numbers coming out of China

What say Me?
I don't think they did anything wrong. Nor do I think they should apologize. I would laugh if they went back to Russia and showed the NHL what they really felt.
When you continue to attempt to control people, eventually you will be all alone. |

death rate in states when down in the year of covid
imagine that - homiedclown
is that supposed to prove something? there is absolutely zero context provided with that data, it's completely irrelevant in this argument because there is zero indication of where specifically the deaths fell.
you're really not good at this debate stuff. |

The protocols are too strict and are not in line with what the other Major Leagues put in place. The guys are already in constant contact before, during and after games - what is the added risk of having them see each other while locked in the hotel? It is not realistic to ask players to leave for 10 days on the road and stay closed in a hotel room with no contact with anyone. - Riverain96
Irrelevant. They knew the rules and broke them.
No one is forcing them to play hockey. They accepted the rules when they joined the team for this season.
A lot of people don't even have the choice these players have - to work - even if under strict conditions (and getting paid a lot of money to do so).

The downside of all of this nonsense perhaps coming to an end is that all of you wonderful libs will emerge from your imaginary bunkers and infect the world with yourselves again...the real virus.

usa covid death rate is much lower then canada
maybe your gumps should have spent more time in med school - homiedclown
How about you work it out per capita - since your ridiculously high total cases skews the numbers.
CAN ~ 19000 deaths
USA > 400000 deaths
USA has roughly 10x the population of CAN, yet the number of deaths is 21x that of CAN.
Death rate for those infected may be higher in CAN, but USA has a real problem stopping people from getting infected. And there are lingering health issues for all patients, including those who survive.

Two ideas...
A) If they are on my team, let them play with pay
B) If they are on another team, kick them out of the league, cancel their contract and make sure they are ban from any type of hockey for good.
But in all seriousness they need to be held accountable for their actions and quarantining them without pay seems fair. (in the real world they would be forced to stay home and use "their" own time if they wanted to get paid)

dude, a Trump crony has been in charge of the US education system for the last 4 years, most of them probably think math is some form of witchcraft that will be used to ruin the church and take back their guns |

Joe will fix it!
LOL.
As to the matter at hand, how about they get tested and we can go from there?
It's a virus. You can't catch it unless you're exposed to someone who has it.
So if none of them have it, how could they get it?
Does seem like the response on here is mostly "The Sky is Falling".
Make them pay the fine. Test them. Test them again. Test everyone on the team.
Then tell them to "Lace 'em up and get out there".
These ridiculous over-reactions need to stop.

Let's not forget they're in very close contact with other guys on the ice.
I haven't seen anyone shy away from contact yet this season, have you?
"Sorry, I can't hit you, I might get the 'Rona!"
Wonder if you can get it if Brad Marchand licks you.
Huh. |

A clear case of...
myopic \mye-OH-pik\ adjective. 1 : affected by myopia : of, relating to, or exhibiting myopia : nearsighted. 2 : lacking in foresight or discernment : narrow in perspective and without concern for broader implications

Fines and suspensions aren't enough. Is it possible to charge them with a crime if they signed a contract to abide by the rules?
Just speaking as a guy who listened to Ek and bet big money on the Caps to miss the playoffs... |
