Hayes is 6’5”????
- SuperSchennBros

Yes and he is a good player, who is not 6'7" and has been a forward his entire career.

Anyone else here think the Gus-Braun pair is a mistake? I think Id rather see Haag getting second pair minutes and stick Gus with Freidman.

At the very least it's a big liability.

Giroux's career best 2017-18 offensive season (34g, 68a, 102 pts), was his first year as a LW after playing center exclusively for years. It's silly for anyone to say he's not as effective on a wing.
- bmeltzer

Yes, you are right, sorry. For some reason I thought he was still a center that year and moved over the following year.

I mentioned already that there is a tendency to move the bigger kids to defense as they grow. This is because that is the best position for them in hockey. It is very difficult for a towering player to compete for pucks against smaller and more agile players, that's just a fact. The smaller players skate, cut and pivot faster. One more thing just to clarify, what I meant is I believe (again not saying this is a bonified truth) that EACH sport has its optimal height, so this is not about the same height applies to the NHL and NBA or NFL. Its different for each sport, and again just my opinion based on my experience, I have seen any study or article that validates this perspective. Some people have mentioned some tall forwards, like Nick Bjugstad , and agree, I never said it was impossible to play forward, what I am saying is you can't find a top 6 guy in the NHL. Nick had a few good years in Florida, but he has had some injuries and never rose above 0.5 pt/game player.

Because of agility in tight, the top 6 ability might be more rare. In this case, we are talking about a bottom 6 position with good linemates that suit a north/south playing style. I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss something you haven’t seen.

...especially over an inch!

I’m not sure that is fair, however, if you are referring to recent playoff performances for off the mark, I understand. This season and most of all his playoffs will be an important indicator of his current performance level.

Mostly he has looked good to start the season.

Giroux's underlying numbers are good. His overall play is solid. He is skating very well. It's not good enough. He needs to be more of an offensive threat. He hasn't generated or been involved in enough quality chances.

Is Morin playing tonight? Why is he a topic of conversation today?

Exactly! Couldn’t have said it better. He’s still a very good player but he’s not producing, nor is he standing out.

Was that G passing it back to the guy who had two defenders on him?
