Although they weren’t great offensively, the Leafs were the better team. They didn’t lose because they got outworked. They didn’t lose because of shoddy defensive play. The first goal was an unlucky bounce from a clearing attempt. The second goal was an unlucky bounce to an open Draisaitl on the PP after a BS penalty call. And the third goal was an empty netter.

Meh, these type of losses aren’t ones to get upset over.

Generally when I track him he’s not in the picture ever on a back check. I swear he doesn't sweat. At 7m he has to score to earn it cuz no choice with his effort. In the ozone he’s a goal suck behind the play when it’s a 50/50 puck up high. Traps himself on purpose.

Not his fault JFJ gave him too much money.

He told them he couldn't sign until his wife's health picture became more clear.

JFJ assumed it was a negotiating tactic.

Turns out it wasn't - McCabe was sincere that he couldn't even look at a contract until they got a definitive diagnosis on his wife's health problems.

Good news: McCabe's wife was going to be fine.

Bad news: JFJ upped his offer 10 times, and McCabe signed a contract he couldn't possibly live up to.

I usually don’t let that stuff bother me, but for some reason I had a feeling it was going to be a costly miscall.

We have JV who disappears albeit much cheaper but not living up to his draft status. Players who don’t engage are either lazy or dumb. Usually the former.
