Hard to beat the Oilers when you only score once on one of the worst defensive teams around. The sixth or seventh d-man is not going to significantly affect the outcome. The bullsh!t penalty on Muzzin wasn't the reason that Leafs lost either. Offense is looking for the perfect goal, ugly goals count, get the puck to the net instead of skating around the perimiter. - winsix
This. Can’t blame the losses on a bottom pairing d man when the team is built to dominate offensively and doesn’t score. |

It absolutely amazes me these days on how many people seem to think that them agreeing with a rule or law factors into things. |

It is ironic why this rule has to be in place.
Its politics, they are playing this season and ONLY providing acceptance to the rules for what's mandatory for the game.
In theory yes, not being able to at least have 2 or 3 people you can hanging in a room together is silly...but if they allow that to happen then what other acceptions will people ask for countrywide?
Is it ridiculous for the players? yup. Is is necessary to have this rule in place? yup |

Frederik Andersen on his game: "I try to give the guys a chance to win and they've been doing great in front of me as well making things simple and that's going to help us eventually down the road. I know the offence will come, that's not a concern."
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
So here's my latest proposal for sports reporters:
If you get a nothingburger for an answer, don't tweet it.
Maybe 10% of the guys will start giving better answers, which the reporters can tweet.
We won't miss the remaining 90%.
Or maybe just ask Ovi's wife questions 24/7 |

How quickly people forget last year when everyone was complaining there wasn’t enough toughness on the backend... well guess what folks... to get tougher you gotta give up some skill... this is nothing new when it comes to NHL |

Jays Talk
Springer is on board. Kirby Yates is official, too. And the Jays, according to Dan Szymborski of FanGraphs, the Jays have jumped from having a 26% chance of making the playoffs to now having a 48% chance, per his ZiPS projection system. And FanGraphs’ depth charts page now has the Jays as the sixth best team in the majors by projected WAR, and third in the American League.

Now add a pitcher and 1 more position player, then it gets interesting |

Except the government has already decreed that the regular rules don't apply to the players - we are making exceptions because we believe that professional sports provide entertainment, which benefits us suckers on lockdown.
I'm not a viralologist (I don't even know what the proper term is), but my wild guess is that hanging out in a hotel room with the guys you've just shared an ice surface, locker room, shower, bus and airplane with does not significantly increase the chance of infection.
The league is trying to be half-pregnant here. |

Who cares wedgie? It’s against the rules and the players knew it. You don’t have to agree with a rule in order to follow it.
You’re overcomplicating things. A rule is a rule. Period. |

Kinda looks like she goes to grabs it, but he's not looking and pulls away at last second, so she misses.
Do we have it from an overhead angle? |

Well yes, isolation eats away at our mental health which makes us more unhealthy.
And to your second point, I 100% agree. What happens if we let these guys hangout with eachother? People will go crazy.
But also how isolated are these guys? Like (frank) if they are going to have to have a hockey only mindset and Netflix by themselves for the next 5 months what happens to them? We probably see some or a lot of guys losing motivation. |

So at the risk of being called racist and thrown off the board:
I did a lot of work in the "former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc" after the wall came down.
One of my observations was that those who had lived under communist governments had a different outlook on rules.
For 40 years, they were forced to live under incredibly stupid rules that they didn't agree with. So breaking the rules and getting away with it wasn't a moral flaw - it was a sign that you were clever.
Come at me. |

We should be challenging ourselves and asking ourselves if this is right...obviously we seem to have less knowledge on this than players and their family.
We have learned from 2020 is that people with authority don't necessarily know what they are doing, especially under completely new circumstances...how they adapt with trail and error will be interesting to see. |

They were just talking about that on Leafs Lunch.
Andi Petrillo was saying she believed that the reason that TFC went from top of the table to playoff busts in such a short period was because the isolation of not being at home for so long just broke them down. |

Yeah I mean it absolutely will.
Can't they not make some sort of rule where you can pick groups of 4 that can hangout in each others rooms? Give them a curfew...let them hangout and have a few beers.

Ok.
We haven’t lived under decades of dictatorship rule.
It’s a bit early to start whining about rules.
We also have things like the courts and lobbyist groups to voice our opinions and displeasure, the soviets did not. |

I’m not saying I agree with the rules... just that in a functioning society everyone needs to follow them.
Like I said to wedgie we have legal avenues to voice our displeasure... and just ignoring/breaking the rules is not one of them |

When a rule is poorly thought out and made to fully protect the NHL and not the players I can see why players are unhappy.
Tbh I had no idea that players weren't allowed to hangout in hotel rooms, I found that out yesterday as I believe most others did. For 5 months? That is not sustainable, especially considering we have no idea what the mental state of each individual player is at. Considering this is a large sample size of 1000 human beings It WILL go south for quite a few of these players. |
