He wants to play in Montreal - GPHawksfan
Maybe he really just doesn't want to play for Torts, don't blame him, he could come here where JC just stares off into the distance |

Watching Islanders vs. Devils, man Barzal is good. - Angotti
If you watch Avalanche - LA Kings game, please feel compelled to let us know how dman Byram, the #4 overall two drafts ago, fared in his NHL debut.
Guessing debut purposely the strategy against a weak NHL team |

Wonder if he's sitting on the bench because he's already been traded?
Only 3:55 played and sitting on the bench the entire 2nd period. Torts is great |

I hope the NHL doesn't become the NBA, where players can force their way out whenever they want, regardless of contract status. |

Looks like Dubois is playing his way out of Columbus, sitting on the bench - BetweenTheDots
Stan should be able to acquire Dubois on the cheap. Carpenter and a 4th seems fair. |

Jesus. I just watched the Avs top line with Byram and Makar skate circles around the king's in the king's zone. The king's literally were spinning in circles trying to keep their coverage. |

100%. I wouldn't worry too much, but with the salary cap you never know. I think the kid just wants to get away from Torts so why not want play with a guy he's had success with. |

He took a holding penalty on his first shift. Other than that, not noticeable, which is goog for his first game. |

Where does MacKinnon rank among right handed shots in the last 20 years? Ovi is the better goal scorer, but Mac is a center, and I think maybe the better overall player. |

My guess: he gets a couple games before assigned to AHL. He will not only have a feel for NHL level competition, but also goes to AHL knowing what he needs to work on.. Furthermore the difference between NHL and AHL in speed, on forwards bearing down on forecheck, on gap control - just to name a few things - is helpful because it makes him realize how far he has to improve.
This kid has so much ability and confidance in his skating and dissecting on the attack.....that he will not get down on himself for his defensive inadequacy. He can see the path to NHL and it may become a bit quicker than some of us expected. I need to see a lot of his NHL games, though, before he could ever be projected as a second pair calibre.
The uniqueness of his skill with the skill of the Avalanche team, however, is such that throughout games a coaching strategy to play Byram at times on second pair, and pair with Maker too, is a high reward with not too much risk because he plays with five man units that are so good. When in this situation he isn't likely going to be playing much defense.
It's accurate what you said about the Kings scrambling to stay in position with Maker and Byram skating circles through the defense. |
