York gained 18 lbs of muscle since his draft year. He has a really solid build now. He's 20 years old. Plenty of people have made the nhl at 20. Each players development is different. But you did not present anything except other players progressions as to why he can't be nhl ready. Some defenseman go straight to the nhl and make an impact how is that humanly possible for someone without ahl time which is absolutely necessary to learn as you suggest.
- Tfaehner

Sure some players get drafted and go directly to the NHL, however defenseman that do this are quite rare compared to forwards, and those defenseman that do directly get inserted into the NHL lineup are elite defenseman, have the skill, physical necessities and mindset to make it. I don't put York in that elite category. Maybe you do, but I don't see it in the limited games I have watched him play.

He certainly would not cost two first round picks and it’s called balance. Why not have two strong pairings instead of loading up your first and second best Dman on one pair ?

What would he cost?

See here is the thing, it isn't a small sample.

The Flyers have played 4 games this year total, with no preseason games. Is that enough of a sample size?

That you have not fully thought out the situation or that you're not capable of properly assessing the situation. One of the two or both.
- MJL

Yep haven't thought it out at all. There are many things it could tell me as it isn't singled out to just one.

Educate me on what it tells you.

I can't answer specifically and I won't expect you to do so or hold you to it. Just looking for a general answer. It was also you that said he won't cost 2 1st round picks. I think when a team has committed to a young player and you want to acquire that player, the cost is normally pretty high. So we can all randomly look at a player on another team and say, hey we should go after him. You know it's not that simple.

Agree. He's playing second pair for Michigan....he isnt blowing the doors off there and getting first pair minutes. They have an 18 year old Freshman anchoring the first D pair....one who is eligible for this years draft.

He has some strong offensive instincts and a calm demeanor but he's routinely muscled off the puck and has got caught flatfooted in just the last 4 games I watched. Like you implied, he's not light years away but Im not sure he'd even be better than Zamula currently.

It’s not but in the off-season when I had originally suggested it was something to kick the tires on hypothetically. The flyers announcers even mentioned that the Sabres will have some decisions to make regarding D since they have some good players coming up. A first and a prospect would probably start the conversation

What level of prospect? How does that affect the protection list for the expansion draft?

Honka on waivers. He can’t possibly be worse than our trio of defensemen, right?

Nhl protocol requires 10 days of clean tests to return to play. Based on the timeline I agree he should be back hopefully by next week.

Who starts in goal tomorrow?
Hard not to give Elliott another start after his performance last night.

Thank you, that is exactly what I saw of York in the WJCs, he was not strong enough on the puck in that tournament, so what makes anyone think he is going to be strong enough on the puck in the NHL!

I doubt he's for sale. You could grab nikita zadorov probably if you tried.

He can put up points but is a liability defensively ... don't we have two defenseman on our roster already that fit this description? If Sanheim or Myers are already better than Rasmus, why wouldn't we have one of them play with Provorov instead of trading 2 first round picks for this guy?
- jd250

I don’t think Provorov, Sanheim or Myers were nearly as physically as Ristolainen. Plus, believe Ristolainen would be better served on another team. He’s on my wish list because of his physicality on the back end, where we lack. Right handed shot. Plus I think he’d be an awesome compliment to Provorov.
