No world changers. But some solid guys.
- Tfaehner

If they're solid why aren't they already with a team?

Absolutely not. No reason to.

If Meyers is down for substantial time it’s definitely a discussion. I’m not on the board of Freidman is a long term solution. At forward I think we should be ok.

With the cap situation the next 2 years and the injuries piling up. My personal belief is to go for it before we get into cap hell. Next two off seasons free agents / rfa:

Patrick
Sanheim
Hart
Laughton
Bunny
Coots
G
Frost
Nak
Bee
Hagg
Friedman

Plus ahl players we are expecting to take nhl roster spots one day in ustimenko lyon twarynski allison lacynski Ratcliffe rubtsov kase hogberg

We have 14 million in cap this off season 36 the following. But assuming a lot of raises in there. We likely don't have enough to keep this team together.

most of these people aren't getting big raises. giroux likely will have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay. biggest ones are couturier and hart in my opinion. i don't see anyone else really getting a ton of money.

Sanheim Patrick and Farabee absolutely will be. Hart and coots enormous. We are running sanheim as our #2 defenseman this year.

And solid raises for guys like laughton 1-2.5 per year raises all adds up to hurt.

Name your contract.
Hart 6 x 7
Patrick 3 x 3.5
Sanheim 5 x 6.5
Laughton 4 x 4.5

That would put us over the cap by 5 million already. Thats only year 1.

Losing jvr ghost jake seems like a certainty but those players still need to be replaced. And despite this boards opinions they won't be replaced easily.

You could be close on some of these. If Hart is making 7M off of his ELC I would hope they can lock him up for longer. I think Sanheim is high. Provy is at 6.75, I don't think he gets that close. If Laughton is going to be 4C, that seems high to me as well.

What do 22 minutes a night #2 defenseman get for contracts? Provy was a steal. And coming off his elc. This is sanheim year 7 contract.

Laughton is worth more to this team and can get more elsewhere. He was hard to place. I thought his floor was 3 per.

Hart I went back and forth on. You could do what they did to vasi in tampa. However he only was a 1 year starter when they had him up. So they bridged him and now he's 8 years 9.5 per on the 2nd go around. Id rather split the difference and lock up hart from the start. I could see it range from as low as 4.5 to as high as 8 depending on arguments. If he is a vezina finalist we get more screwed.

Either way if we save a few bucks we still have to cut somewhere else. This was me assuming all other ufa walk. The long predicted jvr to Seattle helps, for a season.

Patrick i think beyond anyone else was the most predictable contract. Its nearly identical to lindbloms. If he stays healthy and plays like he has so far we are lucky thats all he gets.

Off topic but... what happened to the Buzz fantasy hockey this season? Too busy? No one wanted to lose to me again? It’s okay. I understand, happens all the time.

This team is not in a position to go for it this season in my opinion. What you're proposing is advancing the pace to when they get in "cap hell" . That happens not by resigning your own home grown players but by trading future assets in a win now mode. Now if you do that and you're successful than that is fine. If not, you're in trouble. The Flyers should remain patient.

Haha I just read his quotes, what a moron. Guys hit people into their own goalie all the time and I’m always baffled but that one last night was the dumbest I’ve seen in a while.

Well done Moose. Great game and he continues to excel as a backup. That role fits him well it appears.

Solid rebound game overall, but the loss of Frost and especially Myers will hurt. Hope it's not too bad, but Frost looks like a shoulder..

Re: Provy/Kruger's female doging.. WTF man. Montour CLEARLY smoked Provy into his own tender.. Just look at the force with which he hit him. Provy had zero control. Sorry Freddy.. Stop blaming the loss on something that was of your own team's doing.

How long of a rope does the coach give Gus before this experiment puts him on the bench? He is flat out terrible in his own end. Braun and Hagg are pretty much replacement level players as well.

All Friedman has to do is perform better than one of them; the bar is set low. To not give him a shot is wrong. The 3 mentioned above will not improve overall.

Also does anyone think Ghost will get as long a leash as Gus has so far?

Gustafsson will get plenty of leash as long as Friedman is the replacement option.

Until when? Have they not been patient the last 7 years? This team is a legit top 4 defenseman away from contending for a cup this year.

How are the Flyers going to get that defenseman? Get that player to make a true top defense pairing with Provorov?

There are 2 others who have been bad as well that you can remove from the lineup. All the talk about how much they like Freidman is total garbage then if he cant get into the lineup over one of those replacement level players.

You seem like a reasonable poster so I am sure you can figure it out.

Have other teams over the last 2 years been able to acquire a top 4 defensemen? The answer is yes.
