Donnie & Moj just said they should have kept Tanev over Toffoli.

I dislike those two greatly.

Big game for Canucks D tonight!
- VanHockeyGuy

Having last change is big. Green has been terrible this year but at least he is smart enough to know put Bo against the Suzuki line.

Also another great thing about playing at home is more practice time.

One of the more underrated players on this team. People forget how good he is because of Petey and Hughes

Bo is one of top guys . He took time to get there but I have him now very close to ROR.

Is there anyone in here that is surprised Markstrom gets a shut out first game against Canucks or Toffoli scored a hattrick or Tanev had 8 blocked shots?

I think I would have been more surprised if they didn't.

Anti-hater points:

1)Myers is doing his part on PK, clearing the net and getting some shots through. He's had less gaffes then the other Canuck D.

2)Green is the best coach available for this team and can assess again in off season.

3)Hogs has had and created some chances he'll get more playing determined.

4)Chatfield might be best option for QH his style is more like Tanevs.

5)OJ should slot in for Edler. I'd rather see Rathbone play over Benn.

Not good. Assist last game, now a goal.

Realistically I prefer what Schmidt brings over Tanev. I mostly think Hamonic is played way too much at 5v5. Quinn should be partnered with either Myers or Schmidt at 5v5 primarily. Hamonic should be a 10 min guy, only getting more due to PK.

Different players, (somewhat) different game. I like Schmidt's game. The only good thing that came out of the Canuck's offseason...
Hamonic will be steady and stay at home. His gaff's (like on the Gio goal) are pretty uncommon. Give him some time... I'd rather have him than Stone.

Clearly. As others have suggested, fix that and everything else should come together as a result. A new coach would help.
- Marwood

im trying to be a bit more patient on the whole defense situation. aside from informal skates the team swapped out half its defense and had a one week training camp without games to gel.

effort has been lackluster for the most part and that part is inexcuseable to me. i also dont think its up to a coach to wake up veteran players... last night bb16 looked like he had a fire under him which was awesome to see but i dont think it had anything to do with what green did

I am going to disagree about the best part of the Canucks offseason. The best part of the offseason was not getting our hands tied with long term contracts . Six year contracts for thirty year old goalies is pretty nuts. Both of your top signings this year have a history of missing long periods of time due to injury.

Your team is pretty well locked in for the next few years with no wriggle room and our team is not. I am quite happy about that . You can revisit this again next year .

Cgy is going all in.
They were desperate for goaltending and paid for it.
Van were not in a position to offer the same deals.

Could be a win win tbh.

This.
Unfortunately, injuries and bringing in Benn are only going to compound this issue.

Well, that was fun (other than the big injury worries on D now)....

Anyway, let's enjoy the moment while we can. New blog is up:

Yes Vancouver did not want to offer the same deals. They have young players ready to step in now. Giving long term contracts is crazy to older type players

As Long as they don't play Benn with the defensive disaster Myers, he will show well.

Just looking at the numbers from last season's pairs and confirming Myers is a real liability in his own end.

Myers and Edler started 25% more of their shifts in the Ozone than Edler and Stecher did.
