I know that Mike in Buffalo would have you believe we have 50 prospects, but c'mon.
Sandin looks good.
Liljegren is a question mark.
Robertson looks fine, although Leafs Nation has vastly over-rated him.
What else do we have? - Atomic Wedgie
Given Leafs haven't had high picks they do have a good, solid prospect pool and it's much better than when Hunter was picking.
2 straight years a Dubas pick has been best D at the W juniors. |

You're never going to hit a home run in later rounds on your picks. But to be able to have 2 or 3 good players outside the first round to help your core is huge. - RogerRoeper
I don't get this argument. Dubas' reign has been trying to hit homeruns on his late picks and I think that is a smart move. The Lightning have shown you can go balls to the walls later and hope they turn into good/great players. You just need a good core already (which the Leafs have).
The thing is that after Hunter left, they are still picking overagers...which was supposed to be a "Hunter" thing. When Bracco was trending well it wasn't Hunter...it was Dubas.
Can we all stop pretending we know what random pick while there were two "draft guys" as assistant GM's were which?

I think he knew that Tyler Myers was gonna buttend Tkachuk in the face later and he wanted to try and cement the biggest douche play of the night.

Given his size, there's no way that Bracco wasn't Dubas-influenced. You can't have it both ways - "Hunter only drafted size and that's why he was terrible," and have him pick Bracco.
That draft in 2015 received a lot of love from pundits as being a heavily skilled draft. Picks like Bracco, Dzierkals and Timashov were all considered to be very non-Leafy picks, and lauded for their skills rather than their size.
Obviously not a huge fan of the 2016/17 drafts, but I like the swing at Rasanen, and I do like Brooks as a tweener. The jury is still out on Woll and Scott.
One of the things I have liked about the last couple of drafts is that the prospects are starting to get more international recognition (world juniors as the principal example) and are performing well against other elite peers.
I am reminded of . . .I think it was 2001, maybe 2002 . . . we had a ton of prospects in the world juniors, and none of them really stood out. I was very enthusiastic going into, and pretty 'meh' coming out of that tournament.
This time, I am liking the performances of more of the prospects. |

Hunter could have drafted Matthews in the 3rd round and some would find a way to make it look bad. We have so many fans all over the map, just smile and wave. 😎😎 |

I think the cheapshot came from the guy that took more than 5 strides (charging), attempted slew foot, kneeing, and still somehow almost hit him in the head, while not even attempting to go for the puck.
But maybe that's just me. - GreatGigInTheSky
Yeah but the Jets players sure got riled up over it. Just because Marner chirped Pionk after he scored? I can't fault him for it... |

I meant in the past 2 and a half years since Dubas took over. Those guys aren't prospects.

True but it's our big 4 that will bring us to that next level. What team can match Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares? Tampa and that's it. - RogerRoeper
It wont only be the top 4. |

And Konecny with a hattie the other day.
Leafs haterz will say it was a dumb move by Dubas and Co, but they forget we also got Bracco out of the deal. - Atomic Wedgie
That draft was (frank)ing bad. I would like to think they learned their lesson, but something tells me that "learning" isn't something that happens easily in Leafs land.

I understand standing up for your teammates, but there's absolutely no defense for Pionk being a sack of poop like that.
He didn't even attempt to play the puck and stop Marner from scoring. Complete female dog move. |

He could have taken Chris Simpson - and then kept him in the minors, ruining his career.
That way, we would have never had to listen to Chris Simpson on Leafs broadcasts. |

All you do is female dog, we have the 3rd best record since Keefe took over but all I see is tears every day. Enjoy them without bashing people for a day or 2, FML. Who cares, Shanny let him have a couple drafts and went with Dubas. I don’t get the constant need to say the same things over and over. Lots of teams including Dubas miss good picks, obviously it’s not super easy.

This is where guys like Simmonds and Bogo will make the most difference... when they see one of their teammates get pushed around they’ll be the first to ask “why are you letting them do that?” - Dozzer
