Babs doesnt have the bravado to be the next cherry or burke. Maybe as a coach he was "in your face", but in front of a camera, he doesnt seem to have that. Yet.
But who knows. - Fakepartofme
He's not a showman. |

His price will go up.
This is a show me year I believe.

Wings will have alot of contracts coming off the books so I can't see money being a problem. |

I remember Babs working for TSN years ago. I think it was before his Anaheim days. He was very good. He knows the x's and o's very well and he doesn't mince words. Clear and direct. I think he'll do a great job for NBC. He's definitely better than Milbury. - gergeswillems
I miss Howie Meeker.
I would love it if broadcasts devoted more time to breaking down plays. They are very good at explaining what a team did, but there's a lot more room for them to explain why they did it. |

Oh I think he will be good for broadcasting, every single one of them have differing opinions. They are there to speak well, come up with cliche's and spark conversation. |

I love Burkie.
He's highly entertaining.
I probably agree with about 66% of what he says, and think the remaining 33% is laughable.
Just like Don Cherry was in the good old days. |

That's going way back. But I remember him. Jumpin Johalsafat! (I know the spelling is wrong). Stop it right there! Howie was always entertaining. I want to say he was rookie of the year for the Leafs in 1947.
Babs will do very well breaking down plays so we can understand it. Wings players always said he prepared them better than any coach they ever had. |

These guys often say things to entertain and get attention. I am convinced his "Next year the cap will be 40 milion" was 100% about the Leafs to get attention.

If Bobby Ryan were to ask Yzerman for that I could see it happening. But Ryan is showing alot of leadership right now and Yzerman is big on character. I'm just guessing but I think he'd rather keep him. |

Lets hope they have good years. |

no way they trade Teo....he is thier best hitter. If they went the trade route for a good P, it may be gurriel. I hope not, but you have to give a good player to get one like castilla.
also saw some talk about going after Bryant and Hendriks from the cubs

It certainly did. Cherry is a great entertainer and knows the game. He's just stuck in the 80s. There's nothing redeeming about Milbury. He's a crusty old curmudgeon who thinks he's more important than he actually is. Not entertaining at all. |

That whole "Leafs RFAs are signing offer sheets" was embarrassing. Especially Dreger. I think he really hurt his credibility over that fiasco. |

Roenick was always trying to be the funny guy, but he never was.
It was painful to watch him try his hardest to be Brett Hull, and always fall short. |

I agree. When he announced on TSN teams are preparing to offersheet Marner in the middle of the season, Mackenzie looked embarrassed. It was so obvious he was being used by Marner's side and did it for the clicks and attention. If Matt Barzal was a Leaf before he signed his new deal Dreger would have been all over it about offersheets.
Sportsnet had articles about Kapanen getting offersheeted. It was ridiculous. |
