Just to show you that coaches benching players doesn't always work:

Look at the Edmonton Oilers. Coach Tippett just benched 2 of his top 6 defensemen for tonites game against the Canadiens to try and spark his team.

Net result: Oilers lose at home and were almost shut out until a late meaningless goal.

I just don't understand this Ranger's organization sometimes. Gauthier is a power forward who's 6'4" 220 lbs or so, drives to the net, has scored everywhere he's played , but once again we miss use him and stick him on the 4th line where he will not prosper. I just don't like the way they handle their young players over and over again. Didn't we learn from Graves who is now an NHL defenseman with Colorado because we NEVER gave him the chance he deserved. How is Gauthier going to develop when we don't put him in the right situation to succeed? The best thing to do is just trade him for an establish play because I have no faith in them using him the right way. Something is really wrong with how this team handles young players many times and I for one can't figure it out for the life of me! So many times players have left this team to blossom on another team. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME

The problem is we’re pretty stacked on the wings. I wouldn’t mind putting him up in the top 6 for a few games but who slides down?

Kreider Zib Buch
Panarin Strome Gauthier?
Laf Chytil Kakko?
Lemeuix Howden PDG

Everyone wants to trade ADA, however what makes you think CBJ wants him? They have a pretty solid defense there.

Also, whats Kravtsov done for them to settle for him?

Gotta remember, this kid IS an NHLer who is putting up solid numbers at 22 years old, PLD aint a prospect.

If they don’t want Lundqvist give them ADA. If they don’t want ADA give them Lundqvist haha. I just figure ADA is a NHLer and Kravtsov behind Kakko and LAF is our best forward prospect. 2 unprotected 1sts and I don’t think we’re too far off. I’d be fine with giving them Chytil or Howden as part of it also. The depth we have now in our prospect pool allows us to make a trade like this and still be comfortable.

Kreider Zib Buch
Panarin Dubois Kakko
LAF Strome Gauthier
Lemeuix Howden PDG

Chytil Lundqvist Kravtsov 2021 1st 2022 1st both unprotected.

5m in salary has to come off the books one way or another to make it work.

How do you expect them to use him more?

For PLD, it makes sense to include Buch- he will price out what can be afforded after this season and there is depth on the wing. Slide up Kakko to 1 and we eventually have Kravstov for 3rd line.

Next season there is almost a $9 million boost in cap space added in buyout money freed up and $5.5 million added with Smith and Johnson not being resigned. Add another $.5 million in bonus money that's going to disappear to that and you have a whopping $15 million in cap space added. I understand there are players that will have to have their contracts renewed at a higher salary but to say Buchnevich will have to be moved because he will price out is bogus.

What Downeaster said. Plus the fact that I don't think this package pleases the Blue Jackets by a mile. Certainly not enough to add a draft pick.

Exactly.
Gautier has certainly been a pleasant addition. But, he ain't replacing Buch on the top line. And you can't say that he has more potential than Kakko. So, where is he supposed to get all these minutes from?
I'm sure they want to help him succeed, but until he outright proves that he deserves significantly more minutes than Kakko, he lives on the 3rd line, with maybe some 2nd unit PP time sprinkled in. He's a great piece of the puzzle, but all the pieces need to fit together.

I think Buch's future has more to do with how Kakko and Gaut do with whatever happens with Kravs than Buch's play itself. If Buch posts a 25-30 goal effort and gets 55-60 pts, I agree the team likely resigns him.

Tonight is going to be interesting, Blackwood has been pretty good the two game he played. Rangers just need to do what they did last game. Quick start, early goal and keep the pressure on.

(frank) that. They play at 11:00am get a rest and play at 8:00 pm. They get paid enough and are in good shape.

It might not be about moving Gauthier up as much as it is maybe giving him better players to play with. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from the kid so far and he’s a big body at 6’4 230, maybe after a loss to stir things up try him with Kreider and Strome, obviously not after a 5-0 win though.

Just (frank)ing with you.
You might be right, but I am not in favour. They would not be playing up to their potential under those circumstances.

I like the idea of Kreider on the 3rd line and playing PP and PK as well. To me it seems like the best way to balance out the top 3 lines and keep everyone happy. Balanced minutes should be a priority in this condensed season.
